Tracker Plus 1.1.0 & Tracker Mini 2.1.0 Sampling over USB audio Beta

This Firmware adds sampling over USB for Tracker+ and Tracker Mini. Note mode input is not included in this beta firmware.

New Features

  • Sampling over USB

How to use:

  • Connect the device to a USB host.
  • Select USB audio output in the config>USB to output audio to Tracker via USB.
  • Open the Sample Recorder and Select USB to record USB audio.

UI Changes:

  • Outside of the Sample Recorder: Usb overwrites the internal mix only when Input+Output option is selected and the device is attached to a host.
  • Unlike line-in playback, USB playback(Output) will not mix in the USB audio when not in the sample recorder.
  • Previously Tracker overwrote the output in every mode if some data from the connected host appeared. *Now it is dependent on config option and USB connection detection.
  • What does this mean? For example if you have no USB connection and have USB set to input+output you will not get output at the line out, in the past you would hear audio playback at line out.

Known Issues:

  • Metronome doesn’t work for USB Rec
  • Freeze on USB Rec with the Preroll. It is recommended to turn off the Metronome and Preroll with this beta firmware.

:warning: Beware that beta releases might introduce new bugs that may lead to loss of work, data corruption, performance degradation, or crashes. We recommend backing up your SD card before trying the beta.

If you run into any issues please share them with us by logging a Bug in Backstage.
Thank you.

This is the update I was really waiting for, and after testing it out it works as expected… No issues on my first test… Really happy to see the continued work on the Mini and the transparency with the firmware roadmap…

Great feature! After following the instructions, it works perfectly for me (Win 10) . Of course, after recording and saving the sample, I can load it into one of the tracks, but it can’t play the sample. I’m really looking forward to the final result on this! Thanks, Polyend! These are huge steps forward! ^^

Sampling from the iPad via USB I am not hearing anything on Sample Recorder when USB option is turned to Input only, but when using USB “input and output” and rerouting sound fro tracker to AUM I am starting to get a lot of crackle very soon.

Has anyone tried to use this with Elektron boxes yet? I’m really hooked on note entry right now, so it’s gonna take me a while to play with this beta!

Also working with iPad for USB Audio. Here’s what I’ve figured out so far:

USB > Input = Tracker will output USB Audio to iPad (I am monitoring it in AUM and out of iPad speaker. Audio is also output to Tracker line out.

USB > Output = Tracker will receive audio from iPad (Use a synth app or Youtube/audio player. Need to have Sample Record open to hear the audio from iPad. Cannot play tracker internal sounds from Sample Record menu while recording.

USB > Input/Output = Combo of both of the above. I had best results so far using AUM to with a track open to monitor the Tracker stereo mix. I can then create more tracks with iPad synths and monitor everything from the Tracker line output (all of the audio is sent back to Tracker over USB). You can also send MIDI to your iPad synths. Same as with USB Output setting, when you go to record a sample you will not hear the Tracker internal sounds, but you can still run MIDI to the iPad synths and record that audio over USB. Pretty nice setup!

I will say that to me the Input and Output settings seems like they are reversed and I find those labels confusing. If I want to send audio out of Tracker via USB, I would think to set it to USB Output. If I want to send audio in to Tracker via USB, I would think to set it to USB input.

Also experiencing some crackling sometimes (sounds like sample rate issue noise) but I can fix it easily by restarting the app on iPad. Once it is working it works well for a while.

Great update!

Hey @Mitch, is there a specific place I should report bugs for this feature? In the past, there was a locked tracker mini beta forum where bugs for beta firmware should be reported.

Is that still the case or should I just go here: Bug - Polyend Backstage

Feel free to report it in the regular Bug category. :hugs:

For now I havent gotten any crackling with Output setting, and In+Out give me lotsa crackling like every minute, but yeah, the sampling from usb functionality works great for me

I do agree that the label are misleading)

Works for me.

  • iPhone 15 Max Pro (latest iOS)
  • USB-C PD cable
  • Tracker Mini set to USB Output
iPhone apps like YT send clear audio to Mini

Hi guys, any news about this FW going our of beta?

We will have another beta to test with bug fixes before taking it out of Beta. Sorry, but I don’t have ETAs for anything coming out of Beta, as I’ve said before they would just be a guess but firmware is actively being worked on.

So as far as updates, I am hopeful the next beta will fix the current issues as progress is being made and then make its way to an official release soon.

Hello, How many more new products needs to be released, before we will see updates on the back-land?

As he stated, the next beta will fix the current issues, i am sure it takes time for progress and testing to iron out the +70 logged bugs for PT/PT+/TM.
No irony here, before any new feature comes out, this should be addressed. Perhaps this was put back due to new product development, but they will focus on that again.

We were promised more transparent Communication.

All they did was dumping a new device(s) and suppressing the support for the back-land. I find that weird.
