Synth 2.0 Beta #1

Synth 2.0 Beta #1

Synth 2.0 adds Dirt, a new way of quickly switching scenes by using the grid pads, as well as some stability improvements.

FEATURES

  • Dirt Synth Engine. Features:
    • Blend between 5 classic oscillator shape + Sub Mix
    • Bi-Directional Warping
      • Bi-directional modulation via envelope or LFO
    • Multiple Waveshaper modes
      • Bi-directional modulation via envelope
      • 13 Types: Saturator, Overdrive, Diode Clipper, Asymmetric, Sin, Sin+, Fuzz, Bitcrush, Bitcrush+ Rectifier, Redux, Redux+, Bit+Redux
    • 60 Dirt Presets
  • Quickselect feature - scene selection via grid pads
    • After entering the Scene selection each of the 60 grid pads can now load an assignable scene.

Scene Quick-select via Pads Operation:

  • Pressing a softly lit scene to load the scene, currently selected scene pad is lit at 100% brightness.
  • Press Shift + Init to reorder Scenes. Scenes with P + Number indicate pad assignments.
  • A pad is off if there’s no scene assigned (when there are fewer than 60 scenes).

Improvements

  • Filter Performance Optimizations
  • Increased Modulation Rate Resolution
    • allows for smoother pitch modulation at faster speeds

Fixes

Synth Firmware:
Synth Firmware 2.0 Beta 1.zip (2.1 MB)

  1. Download and extract the firmware above
  2. Copy the .psf firmware file to your Synth SD card → Firmware folder
  3. Copy the Dirt file folder to the Patches folder on your SD card
  4. Best Practice: save your current scene to avoid any potential data loss!
  5. On the Synth menu navigate to Main Menu → System Settings → Firmware → Update Firmware → .psf file
  6. Click the encoder and confirm with Yes
  7. After the update create a new scene to initialize the config settings

Yo! Awesome. Thanks team.

I’m ashamed to say that my Synth has been gathering dust.

I found it to be laggy to the point of no musicality, clunky to use, and some uninspiring patches (although there are some really great ones too).

This is a great opportunity for me to do a factory reset onto 2.0 firmware and start again I think!

I heard that previous firmware revisions have also had performance improvements, has anyone else lived this journey and rediscovered the Synth with improved firmware?

Wow the moment I went to update my Synth you guys released this. Cheers great timing haha

Can’t wait to try the dirt synth. Any thoughts on adding a drive or overdrive effect within the synth engines or as a global fx like the tracker has?

Thank you guys, this is a really nice gift! Can’t wait to try this.
Merry Christmas!

Never mind me. I downloaded the wrong firmware.

I think I just found my new favorite engine in the Polyend Synth. This thing does some amazing stuff, and I’m getting all the neat sounds that I love. Even the noise portion sounds nicer (maybe it’s how the engine is running through the various shapers?).

Heck, it’s just a wonderful synth engine overall, with the warp envelope affecting the waveforms in a less wild sort of way - seems to be more limited in the actual amount of warping.

An important thing to note about the bit-crusher and redux - sounds like my old Frostwave Sonic Alienator (sold it off 15-20 years ago). The Frostwave Sonic Alienator was a very nice bit-reducer, really sweet sounding, less gnarly and abrasive. The Polyend Synth’s “DIRT” engine brings that. What a beautiful way to incorporate such effects. Love it!

It adds a layer of complexity, not a simple addition as it may sound to add a global drive, unless maybe implemented like in Play - which I don’t find that useful personally.

Yeah noise into shapers adds a different flavor of noise for sure! Glad you dig it. Thanks ya’ll and happy holidays!

thanks for such Xmas Goodie. Great to have another Engine, but for my Taste, there are more than enough Engines - the Synth is more or less lacking some basics which are in the Request List, like Midi Chord Creation, Latched Note Follow, or a simple EQ for Synth 1-3….as I’m only a few days in, I dont know how big or small a beta version is, but I hope, that a 2.0 wont be just a new engine and some fixes. sorry if that sounds greedy or ungrateful^^ Merry Xmas to all

You maybe could implement the drive in the filter section, as it mostly comes from there I imagine?

I find the icon for the “dirt” engine somewhat unreadable, I know its meant to be stylised and is supposed to look gritty and dirty but I’d rather it just say “dirt” in a readable font. (small nitpick).

I was impatient to test the DIRT engine, but …

Any one being blocked like me ?
My synth is “preparing the update” since the last 15 minutes :frowning:

Any clue ?

uff mine updated flawlessly

I removed the SD card to restart on 1.3.1 thankfully, will wait for the final release
