Is it intended that note input mode isn’t available in the sample playback view?
I think an option would be a good choice. As you say not to upset purists (like me
).
The one reason why i personally like that behaviour (besides the history), is that most of the times i may listen to a pattern in regular play mode… and then quickly switch to Rec mode to fine tune some steps and don’t want to live record.
An option in the settings sounds like the best compromise.
That would be an entry called something like “Default recording mode (during playback)” : Live/Per Step.
Let’s see what other users / devs think about it
hopefully it will be implemented in the sample playback too! Would make so much sense
Did you end up finding a workaround? I’ve been wanting this functionality for breaks cause it made it so quick on the OG Tracker.
I’ve also experienced this when using chops. Otherwise loving the update!
Wasn’t there a regular note selection pop up for single notes when holding note in record mode? Like the pop up for the new note selection bar but for single notes? Is it being gone a bug? or am I in a parallel universe where it never existed? It’s been a couple weeks since I used my mini so I could be crazy, but I swear there was a pop up for selecting a note originally. Also, can we get a wider range to scroll on the selection?
Hmm in the demo video, near the end the person was playing different chops from the Think break. So it should work? or am i misinterpreting the issue here?
I tried Shift + Rec while note input mode was enabled and the cursor didn’t even go red, nothing happened for me.
Also noticed that no sound came out when using it until I disable and re-enable note input mode.
When I hit Shift + Rec while note input mode was disabled, it did replace the mute switches with Live REC Armed / Unarmed.
But even when arming all the tracks and then enabling note input mode after starting Rec playback, the cursor still does not move and notes are recorded where it is positioned.m instead of on the timing I enter them.
Could it be a bug ?
It works, its just somewhat upside down.you need to change the note selection to c5 and up and it plays c2 and the slices
Amazing update! I’m trying to figure out how he’s triggering the Amen break on the buttons at the end of the presentation video. Been trying to do it but it pitches the sample.
how do you use it with slice? been trying to figure it out
Thank you!\
Quick question on using the note mode for samples. I see some other people questioning this as well but it looks to be confirmed you can use this with sample slices. They are playing a break in the video so that seems accurate.
One question though that I am confused about from a reply from Polyend in the comments of the YouTube video.
Person asks - Will it play an entire sample with a single press without holding the button if it’s 1 minute long?
Polyend response - Sorry it sends an off message when the button is released, but latching with shift could be a great additional feature.
Maybe I am interpreting this wrong but are they saying that with slices it’s only “note on” mode as an example and you can’t play slices like one shots?
That can’t be the case right? In the video of the guy playing the drum break he’s not holding the buttons down between each slice and he’s playing it like a one shot mode.
I feel like this has to be obvious because it would be ridiculous for slices forced to be a note on mode I just need someone to confirm.
Thanks!
I’m not sure i understand your question, but what they are saying is that the keys behave like a normal keyboard would. Once you release the button an OFF message it sent, so the instrument will stop playing (or goes through its ASDR release cycle).
This should be the same regardless of which playback mode you use for your instrument.
OK, that makes sense then when mentioning “or goes through its ASDR release cycle”
Basically, just asking if I am using note mode to play sample slices, I can just hit a note and it will play the sample until the end of the sample slice. I don’t actually need to hold my finger down on the note for the sample to keep playing.
Such as in MPC this would be Note On vs One Shot mode, or in Ableton Simpler Trigger vs Gate.
The way I would achieve this is maxing out the sustain and release of the volume envelope. This will get you close to MPC one shot behavior.
A general rule that I like to remember that help me transfer from a Native Instruments Maschine environment;
- a new INSTRUMENT occuring on the same track will always choke the previous note, and (re)trigger that instrument’s volume envelope.
I will find out when the tracker mini comes in the mail lol
I am assuming that I am just over thinking this and being confused by the responses.
At 2min 10sec of this video when he’s tracking his chops. He is not holding down the pad as he is hitting each chop, just pressing the pad until he wants to trigger the next - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbtR0Xk2PI0
I assume I will be able to play chops the same way on the note mode on the mini?
Nope. We’re just going to have to wait for them to squash this bug. It’ll happen. It’s a beta.
First off, this is a really great addition and a clear improvement to the user experience. I’ve only written up two Wishes for it - just hoping to expand on the idea a bit, but it’s clearly a feature that Mini benefits from.
Thanks!
Update about live recording:
So from my understanding:
- When out of note input mode : SHIFT + REC lets you arm tracks for live recording
- When into input mode REC + PLAY lets you live record on armed tracks.
Notice I also went into Config / Metronome and enabled both the Metronome itself and Precount.
Now I can live record without issues
I noticed another bug with note range selection through NOTE + Arrow keys. When you move to use multiple lines laterally, the selection goes to the row under instead of the opposite.
Love this feature already
