Yeah this is a tricky one and i’m sorry you experience this as well.
I’ve tried with my devices as well and wasn’t able to reproduce it.
I’m glad someone offered their device for testing, so they can figure out what’s going on.
It’s good to see they take it serious, so hopefully a fix will be ready soon 
Most likely this is a very specific issue with a particular hardware revision. As far as i know there are a couple different hardware specific versions of the Play.

continuing the transparency thing, I would love to know what features from the wishlist are in the works (if any). even if not a single feature is going to see its release in the nearest future, like year, I also would be happy to know (as many others, I suspect). no need for dates or deadlines, just a simple list of new features that the team actually want (and going) to implement. imo, the most off-putting things in Play are:
(because you basically can’t do anything with a playing sample)
(because the automation lane bound to steps doesn’t produce smooth curves)
maybe it’s just me (many other wishes are important too), but these two seems to me like a joy killers at most basic levels that you can expect from a groovebox like this. maybe I’d buy a new Play with these two fixed.
