can get it to power on over USB and be seen for MIDI in/out straight in to my desktop’s ports or through a powered hub, but can’t get the multiple audio outs. whiiiiiiiiich is the main reason i grabbed a Plus.
also, not sure if this is relevant, but Windows lists it as Play under devices or in Live menus, not Play Plus. don’t know if they changed that with the move up to the Plus.
moop? any ideas what i’m doing wrong? is my unit borked?
I’m sure we’ll sort this out and that you’ll have a lot of fun with your Play+ (calling the old Play “Minus” made me laugh).
I’d like to point you to 2 different potential issues:
First, do you happen to have an AMD CPU in your computer? Then you might suffer from a known issue, which thankfully also have a solution: Connect the Play+ via a powered USB hub.
nope. it’s an Intel chip. i read about that issue. i have tried straight into a desktop port and with a hub. same result, no audio out options are recognized.
i haven’t, because i’ve not had good experiences getting ASIO4ALL to work with my main audio interface, a Presonus AR16c. regardless, wouldn’t matter, as ASIO4ALL shows the audio ins and outs Windows recognizes, and if i can’t get to that step with the Plus, won’t matter if i have ASIO4ALL running.
have there been instances of Pluses being damaged where they don’t show up? i’d rather swap with the store i bought it from instead of spend weeks trying to sort it and then have to swap.
One thing i would also check is if you can see the device in the Windows Sound Settings. Depending on your Windows Version, sometimes you need to allow access to the device for the audio stack to show up properly.
Let me know if you need some guidance to troubleshoot that or some screenshots where to look for.
yeah, it doesn’t show up in Device Manager under audio interfaces at all. i can see it listed as a USB device, my system says it sets it up properly, Live 12 sees it to send and receive MIDI from, but nothing for the audio outs ins and outs under Sound Settings or Device Manager or anywhere in Windows i’d expect to be able to find an audio device.
it’s like it doesn’t have any drivers installed for it to be seen as an audio device.
If that is not the case (especially since you also tried a variety of cables, which should work fine) i would assume there might be something wrong with your device.
Contact either your retailer/reseller or the Polyend customer support directly.
huh. that was WEIRD. it still didn’t show in Device Manager and the System / Sound that you screen-shotted, but going into the Sound Control Panel showed it and as disabled. enabled it there, it shows up in Device Manager and System / Sound now.
lol. nowwwwww the problem is Live doesn’t see it. it shows in the MME/Direct X menu, but as an Output device, not an input. time to try ASIO4ALL again, which i had be super buggy last time i tried working with two audio interfaces, but hopefully is better now?
lollololool. or more accurately, I am better at setting up properly?
not working right yet, but progress! thanks for the help!
soooooo… yeah. i remember why i hated trying to use ASIO4ALL last time. it is super weird the way it deals with my inputs. i have a pretty basic setup, just 5 hardware synths and a small eurorack modular system, a few pedals, all routed through patchbays into my mixer/audio interface the StudioLive AR16c. i really don’t like trying to juggle two audio inputs at a time in Live, it’s always been finicky and annoying and problem after problem crops up from it.
what i had planned to do with the audio outs of the Plus was to use the AR16c predominantly, then in Live’s audio settings switch to the Plus when i wanted to track out a Plus beat and stem those. Live isn’t showing me Plus as an option though, so that won’t work right now without a multi interface wrapper like ASIO4ALL, which… i don’t want.
alternatively, using the Play’s stem save option would be fine, i thought there was a way to have it seen as a hard drive by a computer? so i wouldn’t have to swap SD cards to get the files from Play to my desktop?
I only want to track the stems from the devices via USB once i’m ready.
That’s why i use VB-Audio Matrix. It doesn’t have to run all the time and i just use it when i need it. Feel free to have a look at my guide if you want and then you can decide if you want to give it a try or not.
USB Storage Mode will hopefully make it’s way to the Play+ as well:
Another very simple option that i have used in the past it to record the USB Tracks to AUM on the iPad and use the stems from there, this allows me to do some simple processing already before i bring all the tracks into my main DAW.
lol. yeah. it’s not like an I HATE APPLE PC MASTER WHATEVERS FOREVERRRRR idiocy thing, i just don’t get along with Apple devices. haven’t had an iPad in forever. it is TEMPTING, so much good audio stuff on it, but i am covered for portable devices that i dig on. and like, just want the simplest option for getting parts out of Play? i love the OG Play, grabbed the Plus because i thought it would be easier than how i was working with the Minus.
USB Storage Mode yes PLEASE. seems a no brainer to have it with the very cool integrated bounce down options.
gotcha! read through the guide (lol. i’m old enough that RTFM is a default, best to read the whole thing before attempting any SHENANIGANS.), looks pretty straight forward. might not have time to dive into that till the weekend, but that’s definitely my next Studio Upkeep task.
