Mini MIDI Keyboard

waiting in line for mine

More invites to come this week as the 10 day windows time out. The next rounds will be set for 7 days to help speed things up a bit.

Coke_Atari ran into an issue where his invite worked, but was not able to ā€œadd to cartā€ on the pocket midi web store. I’m hoping the issue is fixed now, and have sent notices to those who have activated their invite tokens and may be in a similar situation.

Hi! This is amazing! Any chance there are any left?

Yes. Just register at https://pocketmidi.com

and you’ll be added to the list.

I’m about 3/4 way through the list, but I wanted to make it clear that if you received an invite already and it timed out, just respond to the email and LMK if you want a new token.
The purpose of these invite tokens is to allow everyone who has been waiting so patiently to have right of first refusal.

Awesome project, I registered too. So cool to see this becoming reality

Hello! Super excited to order one of these. I signed up for an account at the pocketmidi site but don’t see a section to get added to the wait list. It shows a message that the product is invite only, but that’s it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

volopro no worries buddy - you’re on the list.

I’ve had a few requests for case recommendations, so here’s what I’ve found and tried from Amazon. All of them will benefit from a little foam padding (like the pick n pluck that comes with most hard cases), or as you can see below, in a pinch you can even use the bubble packing from your order…

- don’t know why its showing the 9 pack - I got the 3 pack

Size comparison with Tracker case.

For those that like to keep everything in one case, I posted these options a while back…

It fits well in a Pelican 1170 case, or as you see here, a knockoff Meijia case from Amazon for half the price.

and …
It turns out that an A5 binder is the perfect size, so I designed an insert to clip into the rings and hold everything together. Anyone can download and print the .stl file or send it to your favorite online print service, then pop it into any old(or new) binder. I also added a split version (1a & 1b) for people like myself with small printers(you can see the seam in the pics). It’s up on the github in the hardware folder - GitHub - PocketMidi/KB1: A pocket size midi keyboard controller with speakers for the Polyend Tracker Mini (2023).

Here’s the .stl file

A5 frame.stl.zip (442.2 KB)

There’s also plenty of padded book sleeves and bags on amazon, but I haven’t tried too many.
If anyone has any more suggestions, please post it here.

Super stoked about this project. Thank you.

@SeanMichaelJohnston would it be possible to get an invite? I checked my spam/junk and didn’t see one despite having an account on the site. I don’t recall signing up for an account earlier so I assume I either did or was added because I was one of the patiently waiting
Very excited, congrats on launching this.

I received mine yesterday. Some initial impressions:

  • Impressed with how light this thing is
  • Didn’t expect the buttons to be so (satisfyingly) clicky
  • The fit is crazy tight. I’m not sure how Sean managed to make it feel so bonded but this thing is NOT coming off.
  • The little speakers do work! definitely enough to get a feel for what you’re doing in a quiet room
  • I was a bit afraid of the touchpad being weird because of it’s placement and it kinda is
  • Sad that there is no midi in!
  • So glad to have access to so many chops when I do my sample slicing
  • I went to a glasses shop in my neighbourhood and asked them for their cheapest case, and they gave me one for free!

Will post photos later. This thing is great!! Can’t wait for the software. Congratulations @SeanMichaelJohnston!!

One more question - way back in this thread there was talk about bluetooth midi; is that still a thing (eventually)? Is the capability in the hardware??

Yes. Working on a Bluetooth configurator for the levers and keys plus some live control sliders which will make the KB1 a Bluetooth input bridge type thingy.

BTW if anyone wants to experiment, holding down the 2 arrow buttons together for more than a few seconds (after pulsing lights) will enter or exit Bluetooth mode.

Oh god, can’t wait to receive mine!

Btw, would it be possible to get the keyboard housing stl if I want to print it in a different color? It looks great as-is, just asking, I’m a tinkerer :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes. Since this is an open source project, all the files are up on the GitHub repository - GitHub - PocketMidi/KB1: A pocket size midi keyboard controller with speakers for the Polyend Tracker Mini (2023).
