How Pad Mapping works on the Polyend Synth

Since i’ve seen this come up in a couple conversations, i figured i might as well make a little video for it.

Since Firmware 1.0.3 of the Polyend Synth there is a featured called Pad Mapping.
This video should give you a quick overview of what it is and how it works:

i’ve specfically added the Tracker as well, since the Middle C setting on the Tracker may cause some headscratches if you aren’t careful

If you got any questions, feel free to ask them and i’ll gladly provide answers :hugs:

Thank you Sandro, great explanation.

Thank you very much for this!

However I wish the mapping was auto like some synths can do where we wouldn’t have to do this manually.

I don‘t think there is much you could automate in that process.

The only thing you could maybe do via a „MIDI-Learn“ type functionality is to set the Base note, the rest is something that differs so wildly by use-case that it‘s simply not worth automating (nor would i know how it would make sense).

But maybe i‘m not thinking of a use-case that you have in mind? Do share! :hugs:

What I mean is when I plug a midi controller into synth and want that midi controller to use the scales, it should automatically do it without me having to map it.

Like if I’m using C Ionian aka major C,D,E,F,G,A,B and it’s set to that on synth, then it should send that over the midi controller and do the same and filter out the chromatic notes that are not in that scale.

I strongly disagree with this.
I actually like that an external controller doesn‘t have to be constrained to the scale defined on the Synth. :flexed_biceps:

A prime example of „Different strokes for different folks“

Well you don’t have to be. Put it on chromatic and you’d be back to normal silly lol :stuck_out_tongue:

What i meant is that the external MIDI is chromatic, but the remaining engines on the Synth remain in a scale (which yes, can be useful) .. silly :hugs:

Well to me option would be nice

If someone wants to take 10 minutes to map something out then fine, but I rather take second to turn the option on and the midi controller reads what scale/key the synth is in and auto applies it :stuck_out_tongue:

Just to clarify:

  • Once you turn on pad mapping, the scale the synth is set to is applied to your external controller
  • You only have to choose between if you want to map it to the white keys or all keys.

So it‘s not really much setup to begin with.

:open_mouth: For reals? I should probably paid more attention to the video lol.

To be fair I skimmed it while we were doing my little hulk smash fiasco, but I’ll definitely go back and rewatch then.

Color me wrong

Ok I watched it again and yes very simple.

I shall try to not comment on things until I watch fully next time  Sorry @Sandroid lol

Also thanks Polyend for implementing this!
