Better value scaling for more precise control over small values (eg. Envelope attack time)

What is the problem?

Many pieces of software and hardware will scale the control ranges of a parameter in order to facilitate user control. For example ableton devoted 1/3 of their delay time range to values below 10ms and 1/3 of the range to values over 1000ms. This style of control is incredibly useful and musical.

What do you want to achieve?

Precise control over transient design especially.

This somewhat exponential value approach at the beginning and end of the value ranges could be applied to:

  • Envelopes
  • Delay Times
  • Filter Frequencies
  • ADSR
  • Anywhere there is a range of values.

Are there any workarounds?

Not really. Users cannot even hold shift to get finer control over short envelope attack times. It is frustrating.

No

Any references to other products?

Ableton, many others

Interesting wish!
If i may, could you list the places you’d like to see such a value increment/decrement behaviour?
For example: in the envelopes, on the step fx etc etc.

Thankies!

envelopes, delay times, filter frequencies… you name it really.

Alrighty, thanks! I’ve updated the initial text of yours to reflect that.

@here Thanks for your contribution, the wish is now ready for voting!

Attack time on volume envelope please need shorter values to choose from eg just to soften the start portion of a sample slightly such as on a kick drum
