Vocal Effects Engine for Tracker+ & Mini

What is the problem?

The Tracker line-up offers several creative ways to manipulate samples and even generate sound, but there is currently no specific tools for vocals built-in.

What should this feature achieve?

It would consist of an engine tailored for vocal processing and/or generation (up to the dev to decide whether it should reside on the synth engines or effects sections of the Tracker interface, or both !). It would bring various tools, like vocoder mode, pitch correction, reverbs and de-sser and could additionally provide vocal generation algorithms.

Note regarding the the obvious performance considerations: the engine could either work in a non-live/destructive mode (like some of the already present FX on tracker) or in a specific input FX recording mode focusing resources on the specific task of generating vocals and making them available to the project pool as samples.

Are there any workarounds?

We can manipulate vocals using the already included FX or the granular engine, or connect something like a TE PO-Speak or Roland Aira Compact E-4, a computer or mobile/tablet.

Any links to related discussions?

  • N/A (will add if I find anything).

Any references to other products?

  • TE PO-Speak, OP-1 FIeld
  • Roland SP404mk2, MV1, E-4
  • iZotope Vocal Synth.

Indeed ambitious . I believe the devices usually I’ve had the most fun with so far, always had something vocals related to bring.

Vocals, even rudimentary ones, give life to any genre of music and it’s always just so fun to bring some voice and enhance/transform it on-device (other than repitching/chopping/wetting it).

Even if it’s not in a live scenario, even if it’s not any serious studio tools that could obviously not run to this type of hardware, for me it always made the difference on devices such as the PO Speak of course, Microfreak, OP-1 Field, SP404-mk2, Roland MV-1, MPC or even some bigger stuff like microKorg/mk2 and Jupiter Xm/X. That just adds 50% more fun to any of these, to end up with some vocal ideas on your tracks :star_struck:.

On the mini, we even happen to have a built-in microphone, so even more instant human/organic fun to bring. Mini/+ (and now even Polyend Synth btw !), do have a less ideal line-in, but still usable and used in devices like MF, OP-1 Field or MPC for voice recording purposes.
