What is the problem?
With the way the keys are determined with the new Midi Input Mode, the User is not able to easily trigger explicitly desired Slices or Perc voices.
What should this feature achieve?
-
Allow users to define their own scale or set of keys that can be used in MIDI Input Mode.
For example, C2, C3, D4, E4, and so-on regardless of what the Project Scale was set to. This would allow them to explicitly set keys for Slices that may be non-sequential or outside of the Project Scale as well as explicitly trigger Perc drum voices to their liking. -
Ideally these could be stored on the device as preset.
-
Even better would be if they could be assigned to instrument slots, so that each instrument could have their own scale/keys.
Are there any workarounds?
The user can disable the Scale and then use the Note button feature during Midi Input Mode to change their root Note until their currently desired Note is available in the grouping.
Any links to related discussions?
I think this would pair really nicely with Quickly enable/disable Project Scale. For example, if the Use were presented with three Options for the keys presented in Mini Input Mode.
- No Scale (so the Notes chosen with the current method are decoupled from the Project Scale - just like when Project Scale is turned to None)
- Project Scale (so the notes chosen with the current method are coupled to the Project Scale - just like when Project Scale is currently active)
- User Defined (ideally this would present them some manner of UI to Create / Load / Save what their User Defined keys may be - since the User is likely to want to re-use assignment in different Projects - like for the Perc voices).

None that I am aware of.
