Two tracks are always clicking when recording Tracker Mini in Bitwig

Ello fellow Trackers,

I’ve been trying to record my Tracker Mini into Bitwig, but I’m always running into the same problem: two tracks always have rather nasty and loud clicks on them. I tried different USB ports. That just changes, which tracks are clicking. I also tried different USB cables. Still clicking. Does anybody have any ideas? Maybe I’m just stupid. I’m don’t have that much of experience with recording hardware.

I’m running Windows 11 Home on a PC/Laptop, with a 13th Gen Intel, using ASIO4ALL as driver and Bitwig is up to date.

Hello Ello (bet you’ve heard that one before), hope you’re doing well. A couple of questions for you;

  1. Do you have an Audio Interface or are you running of the soundcard on your laptop?
  2. Have you checked that your ASIO4All is set to the same sample rate as the Mini?

I’m not sure if you’ve seen this guide our good friend @Sandroid has made, but it goes through all the steps to setup your Polyend USB audio devices with VB-Matrix instead of ASIO4ALL. ASIO4ALL has always been a bit hit or miss for many users so it’s the suggested software for creating an Aggregate Device on Windows. Link is below :slight_smile:

This sounds rather bizarre indeed. I‘m on windows as well and use Bitwig and have not noticed this.

As @dann mentioned, maybe give Matrix a try. Before you do, something else you can give a try:

  • make sure your sample buffer is at around 512
  • also make sure you are running at 44.1khz when recording from the tracker

Thanks for your answers/help. I checked ASIO4ALL and as far as I can see, it’s set to 44.1 and 512. It shows in Bitwig as well.
I usually use a RME Fireface UCXII as Interface, which runs on it’s own ASIO driver and not on ASIO4ALL. I switch between them in Bitwig.
Still a lot of clicks and cracks there. Will try VB-Matrix next.
Made a short video (no talking) to show the problem. You can see there, that the armed tracks already show noise, even before I start Trackers playback.

I finally found the time to try VB Audio Matrix and yes! No clicking anymore!!! Nice.
