On the Tracker+, using the “Timestretch Beat” preview function of the sample editor will replace one of the stereo channels of another instrument with the sample you’re currently editing.
Steps to Reproduce
Load a stereo sample into instrument slot 1 (in my case, a drum loop)
Load another sample into instrument slot 2 (in my case, a monophonic pad)
Use the “timestretch beat” function on the sample in instrument slot 2 (in my case, 170 BPM, 32 steps, 1.5 grain size)
Preview the processed audio, but do not apply
The stereo sample in instrument slot 1 now has the monophonic sample from slot 2 in one of the channels
It looks like this bug was also reported back in August and may be more generalized than I’ve described it in my report. From the video posted on this thread, it looks like any sample editing preview will overwrite the top stereo channel on instrument 1.
Looking at the other thread about this a bit; I can also see that the issue resolves when the Tracker+ is power cycled. Additionally, this only seems to happen when the sample being edited is monophonic. If the sample loaded into instrument slot 1 is stereophonic, the top channel is overwritten. If the sample in slot 1 is mono, the whole thing is overwritten, unless it is longer than the sample being edited, in which case it is partially overwritten.
So, it seems the preview of a mono sample is loaded into memory in a way that (partially or completely) overwrites the sample in slot 1.
I see you already found your way around and also found the related bug.
Yes, the behaviour you are describing is pretty much exactly that.
Would you mind reporting a summary of your findings in the existing report? Then we can close this as a duplicate (feel free to link to this one of course in the other report).
Hi @Sandroid - I’ve added my own observations to the original report. This report is also linked below the opening post in the other thread; you can close this as a dupe at your convenience.
