It’s common to see really long names in various sample packs. Many of them contain irrelevant information about the release name etc. Current interface doesn’t allow you to see the most useful info of a file which often comes last in the name as it remains hidden.
What do you want to achieve?
It could be nice to be able to see the most relevant info of file names. For example, if the name fits into a screen, it’s fine. If it doesn’t, check and remove that part of a file’s names that repeated.
The problem is clear but the solution proposed is perhaps more tricky than it seems:
One way computing has resolved this problem is to scroll horizontally when the label is longer than the screen.
However… if you are scrolling samples and you are previewing them (listening to them) in real time… isn’t that what matters?
Also, in the way the Play works best, with samples organized by folders for sample randomization, if you grab a regular sample pack (those with long names) you probably want to do some homework on your computer before copying them to the SD card.
Scroll is the first thing that comes to mind, but it will take too much time waiting for every sample to be scrolled, so I proposed another possible solution. However, any fix is appreciated.
You may skip all the listening if you know the name you’re looking for. Sure, it’s the musical device, but it’s not a device for blind people
This is a problem on the Tracker Mini too. If the text could just scroll as you hover over it (for ALL columns) so that you can read the full sample name, that would be awesome.
