Playing multiple Synth tracks with external midi

I can see that this has been asked in the past in a number of ways but I would like to add my ‘2 cents’. What attracted me to the Synth is its unique ability to use the split grid to play multiple engines at once. Playing it alone like this had me immersed and lost in the sound the first time I opened the box - the mark of a (potentially) great instrument.

Then the next step for most electronic musicians is having it play with other instruments. It would make most sense to me, especially live, to be able to play it live, but also to be able to take my hands off to focus on other instruments, and so have it sequenced. To make full use of the multitimbrality, it would make sense to be able able to sequence one engine, like you do in the grid with a finger, and have it play chords and the other two engines follow with bass/lead arps/sequences etc. It seems that this isn’t currently possible, right?

I have seen one person who seems to be recording multiple sequences at once on the Digitakt II, playing pads from the Synth, but I can’t figure out how he’s doing that, must be two-way midi communication I figure? But seems to also be recording on multiple midi channels simultaneously (like in a Daw), I didn’t know you can do that? I appreciate any insights or future possible implementation, thanks!

As of Firmware 1.0.3 actually this is possible by using Pad mapping.

It will map external incoming MIDI notes to the pads of your desired engine, which means you could have the other two engines set to Follow. Which is (i assume) what you are looking do to?

Just tried this and very happy! Work exactly like I hoped it would!! Now just waiting for the Polyend Mess to arrive, thinking of replacing my Eventide H90 pedal with it which is a beast, but I think the Mess might be a good fit for my style, a little simpler but still very powerful and flexible (maybe for another thread).
