When on the mixer “sends” page, values -90dB to -12dB do not affect the sound.
It seems like the effect is only applied for the uppermost range of the dial (-11dB to 0dB).
Steps to Reproduce
Press “Mixer” button.
Turn the main encoder to “Sends” page.
Turn appropriate sends knob for any effect.
Okay, good find. Thank you, and it is confirmed! We are sorry you’re experiencing issues while using our product. We will do our best to resolve it and notify you when it’s ready.
Not sure if I’ll have to submit another bug but, the main volume knob is doing the same thing to a lesser extent. -96dB to -50dB seems like a dead zone.
After logging this bug I can no longer recreate it, and can clearly hear the expected dB response, near silence around -50 dB. Also, this is the expected dB response (If you drop a track in a DAW to -50 dB, it is likely inaudible, depending on output volume). Please let us know if you continue to experience this bug, but it might just require a reboot after updating the firmware.
Thanks, if you could provide any more info to help us recreate this it would be appriciatted. Do you experience it if you create an Init patch?
Could you attach the project file as a .zip here if it happens only in a specific scene or preset?
If in all of them could you post your workspace folder?
This issue is not just with beta 1.2 The synth behaves the same with 1.1 official firmware version. There is a similar situation with the cutoff and or LFO Rate knob/value bar indication. I think the developers don’t take into consideration that volume/frequencies follows logarithmic/exponential curve/conversion. So 30% of the send bars in the mix page should correspond sending of 30% of perceived synth signal to an effect. That is achieved by changing the mixing algo to a logarithmic curve.
You can notice the same with the Filter Cutoff behavior. 15% of the cutoff bar indicator on the filter screen still shows 1kHz. Essentially every 10-20% of the cutoff bar in the filter screen the frequency should increase cutoff by an octave: Exponential curve? (BTW this is across of almost all polyend products … and I have 5. I complained about the play+ and macro vs filter curves / sensitivity and that discussion was shut down)
There are other spots with BAD progress bar. The LFO Frequency is another one. 50% of bar on LFO page shouldn’t be 10Hz. the mid of the bar should be perhaps 2Hz the 100% 200Hz 75% 20Hz and 25% .2 Hz. (I assumed that LFO can go to 200Hz
The worst of this is that the knob movement is mapped in linear fashion to the progress bar of a screen of each knob. So good luck changing the send volume from 60 to 70%, or tweaking LFO frequency around 0.2 Hz or tweaking filter cutoff between A2-A3 (110Hz 220Hz)
Yes, the progress bars could be improved, but the bug above concerns no audible FX sound at -12 dB.
@Meitao, I have tried repeatedly to recreate, but I cannot, and I can clearly hear the reverb at -12 dB on the workspace project you provided. Sorry! I’m not sure if the first time I recreated it was just because I was in a noisey place and couldnt hear it.
If anyone has a step-by-step reproduction of how to get this issue to occur, please list it below.
Interestingly, the filter on the sample side of the Play(+) works correctly, where one octave corresponds to ~10% of the cutoff paramerer. The same with sample based instruments on the OG Tracker. Yeah, that basic implementation from 2020 got so many things right, one can even modulate panning there…
Hi @Meitao , I will close this bug as “by design” which I agree could be improved. But to be clear this is not about A but about B:
A) the effects DO NOT produce any sound if Send is below -12dB
B) the effects are very quiet with default settings if Send is below -12 dB
I say by default because you can raise the “source” with synth Voice Volume or with Mixer Levels, etc and make the signals louder, which would also make the effects louder.
Please let me know if I misunderstood or your problem is better described with A point.
