One synth suddenly stopped working

I was playing the Synth and one of the synths (synth1 stopped working). Synth 2 and 3 are still working fine. As per another thread, I have checked the following:

  • Local is ON for all synths
  • MIDI clock is set to internal
  • Level is up in the mixer
  • Voice are set to non-zero (set to 4)

I have tried changing the engine on Synth 1 and none of the engines work. I have also tried selecting the init patch and that does not work. What should I try next? I don’t want to have to send this back.

Mine did this once and all I had to do was turn it off and back on and it worked fine.

There also seems to be another fix regarding the work folder on the sd card. Perhaps @Sandroid or another person can go over that with you if you don’t find a fix.

I believe the simplest test is this:

  1. Press the Scenes button
  2. Press the Init button

Still one synth missing?

Had tried the switching off and back on again. It did not solve this problem.

Init scene worked! So does that mean I have a corrupted scene?

Glad to see you got it working!

Also here’s that workspace folder info from @Sandroid

" If something goes haywire… usually it’s best to try to delete the /workspace folder and/or the globalSettings file.

  • /workspace is the last known state of your open project/scene (saved or unsaved). So be careful when deleting this as any unsaved changes will be gone afterwards
  • globalSettings should be self explanatory"

In my own experience, before thinking about corruption, I would check the synth parameters. Maybe the synth is making the logical “sound” it should make based on the parameters defined. Is the filter all the way down? Is a LFO moving pitch or speed below human perception? This kind of things.

Hey thanks y’all for helping out

I agree with @icaria36, always check the synth parameters like ADSR/Filter first.
For example if the Env Amount of the Filter is below zero, you can quickly end up with something that makes no sound.

Feel free to save the scene if you ever run into this again and share it with us.
Happy to help anytime

I am very experienced with synths, so this is what I assumed and I checked all of that. But the strange thing was it was working one minute and then not the next, without me changing any parameters.

That is exactly what happened to me. I left it alone for like 10 mins without touching it and came back and one engine stopped.

Definitely was not any of the synth parameters. I have the scene saved, if you would like to look at it. But I am unable to upload it here, as it says I am a new user.

Just upped your level. As long as the file is under 5MB you should be able to upload without issue now. Else feel free to share a link to a file download service.

Make sure arp and seq are off, and that clock is set to internal

Found the culprit.
Your blue engine is currently in sequencer mode, but you don’t have a sequence defined.
So it has nothing to play.

If you disable this mode or go to Arp instead, you will hear the engine again.

Apologies. I just discovered that myself. Now feel very embarassed. Sorry for wasting your time. Obviously must have been user error. Thanks for all the support from everyone. Especially @Sandroid and @Krumpl (who made me go check the sequencer)

This is the first time I had posted and now feel this is a very warm and supportive group. Thank you. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time. I will go back to my exploration of Synth.

I currently have it connected up to Play+ for a mega jam session tonight

At first I thought it was a MIDI issue as I had been syncing everything up to the Play+ as the central MIDI clock for Synth and my analogue synths. So I was surprised when I switched back to internal clock on the Synth that it still did not work. At some point I must have gone to the Arp/Seq page :man_facepalming:
