Not too shabby my good sir!
I guess now is a good time as any to bring up the fact that there is no Synth category in the FAQ yet
A good first post might be about what to do if one of the Synth slots āsuddenly stops workingā, because that has been asked more than once here and over at Elektronauts.
Since you have enough on your plate already, I took what was posted here and compiled it into a rough draft for a possible FAQ entry. Itās missing a bit about the Grid, and maybe other things, but maybe itās a start?
What to do if a Synth Slot Suddenly Stops Working
Check the Mixer
- Level for that Synth is up
- Check that it is not panned to a side that is currently not audible because of you console settings/cables/whatever
Check the Synth Menu:
- Local is ON for all Synths (when playing on the Grid)
- MIDI Channel is correct (when playing via an external source)
- Number of Voices is not set to zero
- MIDI clock is set to internal
Check the Sequencer Page:
- if it is Set to Seq it requires a sequence to play
- if it is set to Arp or Seq, it requires a clock, so try setting the clock to internal in the MIDI menu
Save the Scene to a new location so that you can go back, then init the Synth slot (SHIFT+PRESET ā Init). If it works now, it must be one of the values stored in the sound. i.e. any parameter on the Engine, Filter, Amp, LFO or MOD pages, or a macro.
Reload the saved scene and check Synth Parameters, the most likely ones are
- Amp Envelope / Filter Envelope
- Filter Type, Cutoff, Env Amount
Also check if Mods and Macros affect these parameters.
Possible next steps:
- Init the scene
- Reboot the machine
- delete the workspace and/or global settings from the SD-Card
/workspace
is the last known state of the current scene (saved or unsaved). So be careful when deleting this as any unsaved changes will be gone afterwardsglobalSettings
are all global settings that can be made in the Menu
Thank you so much @Lizard-of-Oz for compiling this.
Iāve created a FAQ entry with its content and credited you for your brilliant work
Thanks Sandroid, you are faster than I!
That is cool. Just what I needed last night. I have copied it into my offline Synth notes. Thanks a million @Lizard-of-Oz
lovely setup sir.
Reading the manual also helpā¦God knows how many people do not really read the Full manual, but just the quick one⦠And for Noobies it important to precise that Polyend use TRS-B Midi and not TRS-A like most of other brands,so get the right midi TRS-B
Please polyend ,next update ,we like to dim the light way too bright!
Another fix that worked in my situation was to download and replace the sd content from the Polyend site. I was having 1 or 2 synths not working throughout all the scenes l suspect the latest beta download might have corrupted some files.
Did you make certain that the arp/seq wasnāt set?
Sometimes if they are on and very slow, it wonāt sound for a bit.
Not sure but wouldnāt the issue still exist even if l replaced the scenes. The arp/seq would still be setup the same way prior to the scene replacement. If this is the case then the arp/seq had nothing to do with this situation.
We hear ya!
Also yeah TRS-B should be focused on in the manual more as I know it is confusing with the MIDI standards.
Thanks for this, just got the Synth and Mini Tracker and managed to kill the blue synth, Local was Off so quick fix following this
Thank you!! 2 or 3 times Iāve run into the āno internal clockā issue, and bang my head against the wall until I either remember, or coincidentally power on my external clock source (sequencer).
I wish there was a way to have it default to its internal clock if itās not receiving a signal (not sure if thatās possible). So often, I want to sound design on the Synth, but end up moving to an external sequencer when itās show time⦠so making that transition brainless would be nice.
Iāve also said in a previous post⦠Synth should give some visual feedback if youāre trying to play a sequence or use the arpeggiator and there is no clock or sequence (or if local is off). Fingers crossed for this at some point down the line.
