New firmware for Play+ when?

+1. What’s that neat device called below your play?

Parks Tool!. I have three of their controllers. They’re solid 3d printed fader banks with USB midi and TRS midi out. The 16F2K is really cool too, I have two in my “main system”, they’re perfect for making an ITB synth (whether the box is a computer, phone or the Play+) into basically a hands-on KPF HW synth.

Again, to me, the Play is about hands on jamming, so to that end, adding one of these tiny controllers makes it perfect (to be used alongside the upcoming synth performance mode as well, obviously)

Hey, I’m just going to copy and past what I wrote from the general chat:

the Play, Play+ and Tracker+/Mini(Bug fixes) and Tracker updates are all in the works at once right now. They are all being tested and finalized at once. We said Play updates would be ready this summer, but we need to do more testing and debugging so I would guess this would not be ready for about another month - But with all of it in the works at once…I really can’t give any exact estimates. All of these devices will have updates this year.

I am really happy that they are working on a lot of updates and a lot of bug fixes for their devices, but I am REALLY sad and annoyed the they’ve released Play+ just to forget about it :frowning:

I’m glad some users are still happy… well, I’m not one of them. The release of the Play / Play+ update was delayed to early summer, late summer, and now past summer.

As said before, I really, really DO understand that a (relatively small) company has limited resources, but releasing multiple new products in such a short period of time, does not testify to a solid resource planning.

Where the update for Play / Play+ was next in line, now Tracker did show up again, too. Not (!) saying that these users should wait for bugs to be fixed, but to endorse that new products also need time to mature, before more are released and require maintenance and support.

To me it feels like Play / Play+ have become way less interesting for Polyend. So yes, I do appreciate your communication at this point (even though it’s fairly minimal…), but please allow me to share my concerns, too. I do love your innovative and distinctive product designs, but these kind of delays do hold me back.

Regards,
Maik

I’m still holding out. It doesn’t seem to me like Polyend has abandoned or “forgotten” the Play line. The only thing I’m truly not happy about with the Play+ is the instability and bugs. Bugs in software are just a fact of life, but the long release cycles make me a little nervous. If there are still some bugs (or new bugs) after the upcoming release, are we going to have to wait another year for fixes?

As for new features: Everyone has a different workflow, and it will be impossible to satisfy everyone. I won’t be too upset if the specific features I want aren’t added. I do hope that some of the more commonly requested features will be included, as there has clearly been time for development.

Some intermittent hotfix updates would have really gone a long way here with maintaining the trust of the community.

disgruntled og play owner, the fact that the + rolled out with bugs, pissing off the mki owners and the fw keeps being pushed back is just an utter disgrace.

people here are fairly accomodating and nice about it, its all absolutely unacceptable imo.

Play/Play+ users are second class citizens; get used to it. I’m also an Akai Force user so I’m totally accustomed by now :joy:.

Haha same combo here but to be fair…force stays superior to MPC even without Stems and some Plugin.

For the Play+ this PHZ synth would be nice but i am happy with the device as it is.

native instruments users are the most abused target group, no question.

I’m one of those too. Just a masochist I guess…

Lol part of the Force & Play+ club as well :joy::joy::joy: fantastic combo, best of both worlds :grinning:

Not really the Play + as audiotinterface for Force would be nice but it dosent work

The problem for me is not even that the FW is postponed, it is ok, there can be some problems and stuff. It is that it looks like Polyend does not care at all about Play and Play+ owners, and Play+ is actually a new device, not like some old stuff. And if at this point OG Tracker will get FW earlier than Play+ I will just sell mine because it would be even more obvious that Play is not a priority at all.

The team has already communicated that a update is close to release for both Play and Tracker.

That is not even that “close to release” and again I would not mind them postponing FW, I am unhappy only about my device being abandoned.

A Play+ update has been “close to release” for at least 6 months now. And in that time tracker has had an update, and Play updates have been kicked further down the road partly because they are being worked on at the same time as yet more tracker updates. That’s why people are grousing; I think most people thought after the last big tracker updates they would finally prioritize getting the Play+ update out, not spread themselves thin and work on more tracker updates at the same time. I.e. it looks like there will be two tracker updates in less time than one Play* update.

So ask, why would they do that? Most likely it suggests that Trackers have sold much better than Plays and so they’re being prioritized. That makes sense for Polyend but then it’s not unreasonable to conclude Play users are less important, just like Force users are less important than MPC users to Akai.

BTW I am not complaining myself; just observing. I have plenty of other gear to keep me busy. And tried dabbling with both a tracker and an MPC to see if that made sense. Couldn’t get too excited about the tracker (I think it’s great, just not for me), but MPC 3 has got me buzzed, especially as it might signal the beginning of the end of this division in Akai world.

I also got the Akai MPC 2 Live, but I have not installed the MPC 3.0, as this is still a beta OS and I’m baffled, that Akai has decided to sign-up 1000+ beta testers including end-users who don’t know the difference between beta and stable release, who might think, it is the same….

An idea to support your frustration, why don’t you apply for the Polyend Play beta testing team here? [Bottum of the page is a link]

You are not only helping making this the best firmware update for Polyend Play, but also supporting the current testing team to get the stable version finished. [Polyend is a small community, we all know that]

Honestly, I applied it while ago. I never got an invitation. I kinda gave up at this point. And now, I see that one of comment got deleted maybe because they mentioned other company? This is very interesting to me.
