What is the problem?
In manual there is stated:
When Play receives MIDI in it will use the work step for playback if a track
or step is not selected. The Note however will be determined by MIDI input.
Play operates with virtual MIDI thru functionality, redirecting out any
incoming MIDI notes to the selected channel and port. In this situation
length is ignored but chord and scale still apply.
So midi input is applied only to the work step, changing its pitch.
External sequencing of different samples is not possible.
What should this feature achieve?
Now with finger drumming feature implemented it would be nice to have the functionality that the “finger” is actually incoming MIDI note. Which will enable that different samples can triggered from external device.
In settings user will choose MIDI channel for which “midi finger drumming” will be listening to.
The “midi finger drumming” would be applied only to tracks set to finger drumming mode.
NOTE 0-15 = first track (0=first pad in a row, 15=last pad in a row)
- when NOTE ON for the pad is received, it fires the event assigned to the pad same way as when triggered physically by the finger
what to do with velocity…
- ignore it
- adjust volume parameter of the pad on the fly based on the velocity of received note before firing the event
Track pages
Yeas i am aware of that one track can have 64 steps, so the mapping 0-15 for a track is not enough. what i have in mind is that the midi finger drumming is mapped only to physical pads not to “steps” so probably midi finger drumming applies to currently selected page of the track, basically it should behave same way as physical finger drumming.
Are there any workarounds?
none that i known about.

Maybe digitakt when sequenced from external device.
