Loading 1.3 samples and scenes

Good news is I installed version 1.3 and the DWA patches. Bad news is I can’t install the DWA samples and scenes. I installed the DWA samples in both the Grain and Wav folders but I get the errors in the attached photos when I try to load a DWA patch because the samples aren’t found. And the DWA scenes don’t show up as (sub)folders in the Scene folder on the SD card. I suspect that’s why no DWA scenes load. I reflashed v. 1.3 after I loaded everything to the SD card. Help!

I just copied the DWA folder with samples in the update pack into the Samples folder. That worked fine (should have the GRAIN and WAV folders alongside it) once I restarted and flashed the firmware.

Is this win XP??! Aah good memories😄

Indeed! I’ve got a lot of 32 bit Graphics and Audio software that only runs on XP which I still use. Plus I’m keeping the PC out of the landfill. At least that’s my justification for being cheap.

I understand. Just out of curiosity, if one were to copy the samples into one of the existing folders, would it be the GRAIN or WAV folder?

has to be its own folder named DWA in the existing Sample folder.

Got it! Thanks!

I will also say, I’m a little displeased that each engine (GRAIN, WAVS, DWA) uses its own sample library folder–since most of the samples I’m going to pull for each of those engines is going to be the same library–thus necessitating the need to duplicate the .wav files in each folder and tripling the sample space usage.

I’m guessing using normal aliasing techniques wouldn’t fix it. Seems a minor thing and it’s not like the Synth is heavy on sample usage when compared to the Play/Tracker.

That may be the case for GRAINS and DWA, but WAVS uses wavetables, and those won’t be much use for GRAINS and DWA, just preview some of them on your computer and you’ll see what I mean.

Also I’m pretty sure the limit of 250 files per directory and the small screen will bite you long before you can fill up the SD card.

Personally I appreciate the separation, but I also think that the best way to handle this is letting the user choose their own structure of possibly nested sub-directories. Which incidentally would also get around the limit of 250 samples per engine, too.

There’s a wish for sub folders, we could easily edit it to accommodate your needs, too:

these are “normal” samples, so you can use them in the GRAINS engine, but they’d sound rather weird and glitchy in the WAVS engine (which expects wavetables, and would assume these files contain 256 waveforms, see p. 64 in the manual).

Definitely a worthwhile experiment.
