Lines Per Beat, Per Pattern

What is the problem?

There’s no way to change how many lines per beat there are. It’s all 16th notes. This makes triplets especially painful.

What should this feature achieve?

By allowing us to select Lines Per Beat for each pattern, we can be more granular or economical with programming. At the extremes, you could program individual 32nd notes, and more helpfully, you could have longer patterns without needing more steps. If you were only using 8th notes, a pattern of 128 steps could be twice as long and easier to program.

Most importantly to me, it would allow programming triplets without confusing micro timing adjustments.

Are there any workarounds?

I know you can select different highlighted steps and just treat the 16th notes like triplets if you group them in 3 or 6. But the issue there is that the tempo will be wrong. And I have some patterns I want to do in triplets, and others in 8th notes. That’s an all or nothing work around.

The other work around for triplets is micro timing adjustments, but it can be confusing and takes an FX lane.

Thanks for taking the time to make this wish! I’m thinking it might be very similar to this one. What are your thoughts?

I think that’s different – I think they are talking about tempo changes, mostly. I’m talking about subdivision.

I appreciate the question.
