Inconsistency of Shift double tab effect on notes of physically held pads, depending on Seq mode

Bug Description

The notes of physically held pads are treated in different ways, depending on the Seq mode.

I’m not sure whether this is by design, but it could be an edge case bug that just slipped through. I was led to testing this because of this proposed wish: Retain notes that are physically held after a double shift.

Steps to Reproduce

A:

  1. Set Seq mode to Off.
  2. Latch a note with Shift.
  3. Physically hold down another note.
  4. Double tab Shift to release latched notes.
  5. The note that is held down physically continues to play.

B:

  1. Set Seq mode to Arp of Seq.
  2. Latch a note with Shift.
  3. Physically hold down another note.
  4. Double tab Shift to release latched notes.
  5. The note that is held down physically is also released by the Shift double tap (although the pad stays lit).

Occurrence / Frequency

Always.

Hello friend :hugs:

I can’t replicate this - could you provide a video of the behaviour?
Just in case i misunderstand what you are trying to do?

Absolutely! I’ve just recorded this one for you :upside_down_face:

Aaah… now i see what you mean. Thankies :hugs:

  • So i think the behaviour from playing without Arp makes sense and is intended.
  • I’d say the behaviour of the Arp is unintended or a possible bug

Would you agree?

I’d say that at least I would expect them to behave the same (that’s the bug in my view).
Btw, in Seq mode (recorded sequence) it behaves like in Arp mode.

What the “correct” way is, is ultimately up to the Polyend team. For me, being able to hold notes that will continue playing after a double tap on Shift gives us more creative options. But now we’re moving into the territory of the wish I linked to in the opening.
