What is the problem?
Right now, it is not possible for a user to swap out one instrument for another, in an entire project, all at once.
Either because they want to try a different sound, or use an external midi instrument in a studio/desktop setting.
The user has to manually find each step referencing that instrument, and swap it out.
They have to do this for each pattern, and across multiple tracks if the instrument is referenced in more than one.
What should this feature achieve?
You could be able to pick an instrument, then pick a new instrument, and swap it out across the entire project.
You also need to be able to undo this action in one pass.
This would open up the creativity of the unit, and in the case of the mini, capitalise on its portable nature.
For example, right now, I compose my tracks while travelling, using the internal synth engines as placeholders… but then when they’re complete I’d like to perform/record/explore with them using other hardware equipment at home.
If I decide I want to change the composition while on the move again, it would be great to able to swap the internal synths back in, so I can hear what I’ve composed.
As it stands, you are much less likely to change an instrument once a project is composed, because it is a bit torturous to make the change manually.
Swapping out instruments is one of the most powerful, creative and fun elements of a DAW. It would be fantastic to see it easier to do on the tracker.
Are there any workarounds?
Not that I am aware of. Manually searching for steps referencing the instrument, and swapping them out one by one, is all I have found.
