I used to have the Tracker but swapped it for the Play. Although they both are just things for making sample/synth based music, the difference in their workflows is why there’s room for both, I think. While I consider Trackers extremely cool, I never really got to feel like I had the grand overview of what I was working with. The Play with its grid give me that, and that was a huge game changer for me.
Tracker+? yes, the only thing I miss in the OG is more RAM and extra 4 MIDI channels to drive external analog synths, and it could be perfect. This should be a nice improvement, there’s no need for synth engine on it IMHO.
A more powerful processor to allow for more robust granular would be awesome. Also separate MIDI tracks. One more thing - a volume lane for every track so you don’t have to eat up an FX lane for volume changes.
Loving the Tracker so far though!
i agree with carlin. There’s still quite a few things to implement or fix on the OG to bring it to it’s full potential. Don’t leave things unfinished before rushing on.
I actually jumped on the sale while waiting for my mini to arrive pre-order… I felt as a product possibly headed toward legacy an upgrade would be imminent eventually even if they just added the stereo and independent battery but at the same time the charm of most Tracker style workflows is also the classic feel of what it is originally replacating… I enjoy my Tracker and Play, which i both purchased in 2023 which seems to be an anger point for a lot of customers… I currently dont plan on upgrading and also most likely will not purchase a v2… If i used them more as tools and less as inspiration musical devices maybe I would consider it… I am a fan of Polyend but their prices are definitely not geared toward hobbyists… But i will never say never… If a Tracker v2 comes out and it seems formidable in my eyes and eventually hands… I am not opposed to purchasing again one day…
On the fly sampling, a better timestretch, input monitoring whilst playing, better synth engines, velocity sensitivity. All yes please.
A big yes for a Tracker+ with the new synth engines from the Play+.
Fix the bugs in the Tracker Mini and then we can talk. You guys haven’t shipped out 1 single update to fix the stereo sampling from the stereo line input (unless this is just not a feature) or any of the zero crossing snapping bugs or the various other glitches. Want to love the product but y’all still have this thing listed as pre order and you just launched the Play+, and are talking about a Tracker+? Seems like a looooooooooot of support that will not be going to the existing flagship product.
As I have both the Play original and the tracker mini I would really like such an integration, I’m sure it can’t be too difficult a job for experienced coders and could greatly increase the flexibility of the tracker mini.
Big yes on a Tracker +.
Wish List:
-
Ability to either record performances in performance mode would be my dream tracker + feature.
-
No synth engines (no competition with Play +), play integrates with tracker well as it is, but find ways to make that integration even more robust / interesting (maybe separate the midi synth ability out so that you can still run Tracker + as a sampler at the same time as it’s performing midi synth duties?
-
Instead of synth engines, beefed up granular and wavetable sections
-
Increased sample memory per project
-
Stereo sample capability
-
Keep the radio, allow it to sample as it’s changing channels, if possible.
-
No mic as Tracker Mini has portability covered
-
Class compliant audio interface capability
-
In general, more live sample mangling capacity. Assignable LFO’s in a Tracker + sounds amazing to me.
Please please please do Tracker+!
I have many grooveboxes, but literally none of them inspires me as mush as the tracker. This is definitely my most go-to music making device.
While I considered purchasing tracker mini, I still find the formfactor of the OG tracker working way better for me, the wheel and the keys are really speeding up my process.
The things I wish appear on mk2 are
- more minutes for samples memory
- stereo sampling
- a faster operation while applying EQ, compression, etc.
- ability to record multitrack instead of just stereo out - so class-compliant interface would be awesome
- synths from play+ would be great, but for me this is not a must at all
Honestly this is everything I need in the new iteration and I am all good to pay the full price for just these added features.
About the synths, I’ll just note that whenever someone mentions the Tracker OG or Mini and someone else mentions the Dirtywave M8, soon enough someone will say that the M8 has synths. Maybe they are not as important for established Polyend Tracker users but some potential users out there seem to care about them. Maybe this is more about feature comparison than actual use of these synths in trackers. Sometimes (only sometimes) marketing is disconnected from reality, and maybe the synths would be useful to make the hypothetical Tracker+ more attractive to more people, regardless of what they do in the end.
(Then again, per-step synths in addition to per-step samples and per-step MIDI are very cool! It “just” takes more learning curve and practice time.)
Totally agree.
We would basically have Tracker + which is also portable.
See what Polyend is doing though? Instead of such integration, they are pushing for another product to sell, without having fixed the issues with their existing products.
Although, to be fair, this time they are open about it, so consumers can choose NOW to go with Tracker Mini or wait for Tracker +.
In any case, I’m gonna make a Wish for Full Integration of Play(both) and Tracker Mini.
Seeing the track record of Wishes that came to life, I don’t have high hopes but I will try anyway.
Cheers
I don’t see this anywhere, I only see the very open question in the OP, which is a reaction to the requests from the community. Nowhere are they saying that they’re reallocating resources towards a potential new product. I see it as a very loose bit of market research, nothing more.
Yea maybe I judged too quickly but seeing how they released Play + has affected I guess
No idea how much this applies to Polyend but in general…
The staff working on bugfixes and software updates are not the staff that would work on a hardware upgrade like the Tracker OG → Tracker+.
(((The assumption here is that most of the software work was done for the Tracker Mini, that the Mini and the Tracker+ would have the same platform under the hood, and that the Play+ and the Tracker+ would share a lot of platform code too.)))
The business of sustainable software upgrades is rather simple: either you charge for the upgrades or you don’t, but if you don’t you need to continue selling products to pay the cost of producing those free upgrades.
If both points are true, then a Tracker+ wouldn’t take away resources from bugfixes and software upgrades. It would be a relatively affordable and safe new product that would contribute to consolidate the software platform and bring new users.
If there is demand for it and it sells, of course. That’s always the risk.
I want to revise my earlier comment. I think improved granular and more fx lanes would be much more useful than the synths from the play+.
Having more than one grain and more options with granular would be a game changer.
More processing power obv for quicker sample manipulations.
More outputs for routing tracks through external fx.
Resampling.
Analog clock input/output for sync.
Keep the radio, add the mic.
No onboard synths.
Better pad feel. (Just make them clicky buttons)
Better pad feel
Only two FX
Midi program change in
Radio
Mic
I’d get a tracker+. I still use my OG tracker frequently. The features I’d most be interested in would be:
- Audio over USB
- More built in synths
- More I/O
