Although I am being very critical with Polyend in this thread, I think that talking about Ableton’s device is not only pointless but also distorts the thread. Constructive words, complaints and debates yes, trolls no… please.
You’re not wrong. I don’t think it’s pointless, it’s competition. Also Ableton had their feet in the fire after the release of Push 3 when the disappointment was so great that they disabled the forums, disconnected the call center and went completely dark and basically waited for the shitstorm to pass. End of story: Push 3 is usable now (no…it’s still far from perfect, but at least we “know” they’re listening).
Also: kudos to the mods in this forum…I wouldn’t survive this for two days…
No time ro read the entire thread, but I appreciate the honesty in the first post …
my advice 10 months ago would have been hired asset/ouside code contract as time is not in PE favor… allot of steep competition comming up…
Yet Im patient PE are one of the most dope sampler sequencers out there atm but I have to admit and underline that frequent updates would really be comfort to the commitment as I think I just blew my chances of getting a Play when I bought my girlfriend this …
she basically lost it and said I wasn’t getting aPolyend Play anymore …
Im on the defense now trying to play it as she is my play now
Hi you all, quick update:
Sorry for the delays on this firmware update, we understand you have been waiting for some time for it. Some unforseen obstacles and the complexity of the update have pushed it further out and we would rather take our time than risk a worse experience for users.
For those wanting to separate new features from bug fixes - the changes affect large parts of the codebase. Separating at this point would increase the workload even further and delay things even more.
Giving everyone a timeframe for this update wasn’t a great idea, so I am definitely not doing any more timeframe updates before firmware is ready, please don’t ping me for dates because I can’t tell you more.
Also I need a shirt like that.
Just for clarity, this was just a wild Mitch appearing
I have not had the time yet to compile everything that was discussed here, so that Polyend could respond to it.
okay, I saw that @Sandroid asked for a constructive communication and the ways to sweeten the pill for the Play users. I guess, we all understand at this point that no words said on this forum won’t make the updates to happen any sooner – it’s in the works, that’s it. Still, what are the other options to bring back the trust?
Transparency.
Personally, I don’t really care about any surprises and all the suspense about what is the next update will be about. Questions about the future features are plainly ignored and all the nuances are behind the curtains. Why all the secrecy? Are we scared of spies from Ableton or what? Why is it so hard to send emails to all the registered users like «in this month we did this and that while working on these bugs and those features». Users would be grateful for such communication. I have examples on my mind where it worked really, really well and kept communities strong around those products.
You may say: who the heck are you, we don’t owe you anything. The product was sold, you have got all the marketing materials beforehand, you knew about the features and possible limitations. From now on any firmwares or updates are just bonuses, say «thank you» for those couple of patches we aready made. Okay, thanks. You have the right to say so. But you will lose customers. And those customers will gladly share their experience with fellow musicians. Is the secrecy worth it? Even if you say «we were on vacation this month» it would work alright, we’re all people, but the radio silence is just the worst.
I sold my device, because this fog of war have driven me crazy. I am truly happy that I don’t care that much now. The guy who bought my device could buy the same device from you directly, but you lost him. And I could keep the thing if I knew what’s going on, while all I saw was like «it’s not abandoned, you need to believe» and wait for a year to get a feature no one seem to ask for (at least, according to the wishlist). Oh, well…
So, I dare you guys to tell what are the features folks are waiting for? Will see if the userbase will ever get the email with the answer.
Based on their latest offerings…no.
Looks like the Dato Duo by Ableton: “Push for kids”.
man thats hilarious. I love you guys
I don’t 100 % agree on, that 2nd hand users are lost sale. Some users always buy used gear to save a few bucks.
I think 65 % of my home studio is 2nd hand purchased devices incl synths and lots api format 500.
That said, I’m sure that the first hand user is as welcome as the 2nd hand user in this community.
I would say tho, ableton Move probably will take a huge portion of the beginner hardware market now. play+ is imo too expensive for most of the beginner market so maybe you guys would consider focusing play+ towards more advanced users? slicing, sample editing, resampling, more modulation etc, all that good stuff
the interface is there and it sounds amazin’, but most advanced users I know won’t touch it cause they think it’s not deep enough. the general view in my music circles is that it’s “for beginners”.
But is still a lost sale because Polyend does not earn nothing of this sale. No earn no benefits.
Even with all the bugs that ruin the Play+ experience, it’s still better on paper than the Move. Keep in mind that the Move only has 4 tracks, no song mode, which makes it unviable for any musical composition, live performance, etc…
The Play+ would actually be AMAZING if it worked well.
here I totally agree, I think the move is shite but an ableton “on the go” machine for normie’s at €450, it’s made for the mainstream and I guess it’ll sell like hotcakes.
I don’t 100 % follow this point-of-view.
- You are aware of, that there are users who only buy 2nd hand, no matter, maybe due to a tight budget?
- is it no benefit for Polyend, that a new member joins the community to share their ideas or feedback, though they didn’t buy the ticket at them in first hand?
There are some users who buy second hand no matter what, but here’s another twist: if a device is truly great folks won’t mass sell it, especially with massive price drops (OG Play can be found for 350$, losing more than double of the initial price). The less the offer, the less second hand units sold in general. So, we don’t talk about a single sale.
regarding the second point, well, considering the amount of communication or the amount of actually implemented “wishes”, it seems like polyteam don’t really need a new member at all. maybe his email to sell another product later on. imo, of course.
Jokes aside, sorry I don’t have time to write in depth about it at the moment but I’ll write more about it later, I think sharing whats in the updates problably works for 1 person companies but is about as helpful as me sharing dates because that changes too.
@Mitch I just wanted to drop you a note about the Play Plus because, while I love the machine, I’m getting a bit worried about its future. I know a lot of the feedback from users might seem like complaining, but it comes from a place of love. Play is a great piece of gear, but it could be so much more than just a sample player. It could have proper MIDI implementation, storage mode, resampling, sample slicing, and every idea that’s been on the wishlist for a while now.
But here we are, still dealing with the same bugs, and I’m starting to feel like the new features we’re hoping for may never come. And to be honest, seeing Polyend’s focus shifting towards sample packs and guitar pedals makes it hard not to worry that Play Plus is being left behind. I get that you probably have different teams working on these things, but from the outside, we don’t know your company structure, so it’s tough to gauge where Play stands in your priorities.
I’ve actually stopped using the Play Plus because of these bugs. Over the summer, when I had free time, I didn’t even take it with me because of issues with sample folders and importing. My fear is that once the bugs are finally fixed, the project might be abandoned before we get the features that could really make Play Plus shine.
This wasn’t a cheap piece of gear, and while I don’t need a timeline for updates, I just want to know that the Play Plus won’t be left behind. It’s such an innovative and powerful machine, and it deserves to evolve and get the love it needs to become all it can be.
I hope you understand where we stand here.
Actually…It comes with Ableton Live Intro License which has instruments especially the Move ones such as Draft , Wavetable and Drum Rack so export to Live is perfect and then based on personal license you can add extra synths and stuff
mate, I was talking about the polyend play
