I am a new Play+ user but not at all new to syncing the clock of any DAW over usb.
I read the manual; and I must be missing something stupid or easy. No youtube tutorial OR forum post lead me to the answers so now I am hoping to find some help.
I have setup my Play+ clock in to Midi IN USB. I setup my DAW(s) (tried ableton and logic) to sync and send the clock to the Play+…and nothing happens.
If I do the reverse and sync the clock OUT of the PLay_+ to my DAW(s), I can get it to control the DAW.
There doesn’t seem to be a factory reset. I used the reset switch which seems to reload firmware. I am running the latest 1.1.0 firmware. I wish there was a way to do a REAL factory reset of somesort because then I know its not some sort of glitch.
Any help would be appreciated. (yes I have played with all options for Transport in and Out and tested that as well..nothing).
I was running through a powered hub, but a thunderbolt 4 -10gbps dedicated port, not some cheapo thing. Not in a million years would i think this would stop ONLY the midi transport going one direction (because it works the other direction). As soon as I plugged it straight into the computer everything worked. All other gear seems to work JUST fine through this hub and port over USB. This has to be a bug with Polyend Play+ no?
It’s mentioned a couple of times in the manual that the Play+ doesn’t support USB hubs. Results have been hit and miss for users. Of course the Play+ will work with a proper MIDI hub. This one below gets lots of use from Polyend users.
Yea i mean technically i dont have a USB hub I have a firewire 4 hub. Since it has always worked and was working one direction I just assumed I was missing something else. But fair enough. I get it.
Wow, I am finally finding some time this weeknd to hook this up DAWless and it doesn’t seem to send or recieve transport or clock. I have completely powered it via USB power supply rated according to the manual. (not plugged into the computer). I have tried everything. I have many pieces of gear I am connect to midi. Tried different adapters, midi cables everything. What are the chances I bought a defective unit?
There HAS to be something I am misssing?
I tried upgraded to the beta firmware then back down to the latest stable firmware. I am at a total loss here.
I did buy this unit second hand. Maybe I got screwed? Seems like such a weird function to be broken while everything else seems to work properly. Is there no way to HARD reset the machine in case its some sort of setting stored somewhere that is bugged out?
I am loosing hair trying to get this to do anything but run by it self, its useless for me if I cannot get it to sync with SOMETHING.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
EDIT:
I just discovered there is actually two polarity types of TRS …A and B. And B is called out which is probably “super rare”, since I have about a dozen adapters and none of them work and none of my other devices seem to use TYPE B?
Just ordered another cable and a converter to try this out. I am hoping that is the only issue. What a mess.
@coflo yes, thats the problem. Polyend uses TRS type b . It’s not super rare, but to be fair, the A standard is more common. You shoud get an adapter TRS a to b, or a TRS b to 5 pin.
Here’s a web with a list of all the music gear and if uses a or b TRS. Indeed it’s a porblem of the music gear industry and not just a Polyend issue.
If you’re handy with wire strippers and a soldering iron, you can make an A to B converter yourself by cutting a male to female TRS cable in half and connecting the tip to ring wires and vice versa.
Looks a bit dodgy, but is way cheaper than paying for a specialised converter cable.
