Accent Action type

The Humanize option is a great approach to quickly making individual tracks feel a bit more alive. However, it would be great to have additional options that give tracks a bit more life, like altering the Volume for each step for achieving simple effects like accented hi-hat sixteenth notes. This could be an “Accent” Action type.

What is the problem?

When wanting to program drum patterns, it becomes a bit tedious to program individual accented sixteenth notes for hi-hats and whatnot.

What do you want to achieve?

It would be great to have an Action type that would apply some generic accented styles to tracks, like where every other step is accented, every fourth step is accented, etc.

Are there any workarounds?

Isn’t it possible to randomize volume already?

I’m traveling and I don’t have the Play with me. The Manual is inconsistent. Volume is mentioned in https://polyend.com/manuals/play/#audio-sequencer

  • Randomize Type – determines which step parameters are affected.
    • The available randomization types are made to be self-explanatory without bogging you down in detail. If you’re curious, check the appendix.
    • Choose from: Sample In the folder, Sample In Pool, Sample Length, Texture, 1 Octave, 2 Octaves, Volume, Space, Nuke, Duke Nuke.

but then the Apendix doesn’t mention it.

Yeah there is a volume randomization option, but I think a dedicated “accent” Chance/Randomization feature that has some more deterministic options for accenting steps with common increments (quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, etc) would be useful.

Thank you, @james, I was distracted by your mention about volume randomization. But then, if this is about regular accents…

Why not having a track with 2 or 4 steps only, where the 2nd or 4th is manually accented? Wouldn’t this achieve the same result in a very simple and flexible way?

Yeah that could definitely be a workaround for sure, but then you lose the ability to have other changes that evolve over a longer track length.

high hopes, it will be implemented someday. such a simple little thing will improve drums on the device a lot.
