Ability to pause and resume playback

Often while I’m editing, I want to pause, make some adjustments, and then continue playback. That makes it easier to work on a pattern – especially when making changes near the end of a long pattern.
Otherwise, I have to stop, edit, and then playback from the beginning.

What is the problem?

Editing the end of a long track is tedious because you have to start over from the beginning every time to hear changes.

What do you want to achieve?

It would be nice to be able to either:

  • Pause/Resume playback without restarting from the beginning of the pattern.
  • Be able to start from a specified trigger. (E.g. hold a pad and press Play to start from there).

Are there any workarounds?

I don’t think so.

Clear and to the point! Thanks for the wish @kareed

@here Thanks for your wish. It’s now ready for voting

This would be especially useful too when connected to other devices that supports it. Right now, I can drive clock/transport from my OP-1 Field to the Polyend Play+, but the OP-1F has the ability to pause, so if I resume on the OP-1 Field, I’m no longer in sync as far as how far into the track I am (but still in sync as far as clock/tempo is concerned).

You need two dedicated buttons for that workflow to work though. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like the third button below the Play+ screen is used. There is the “Live Rec” button to the left of the “Play” button, and no function on the button to its right.

For reference, the flow on the OP-1Field is:

  • When a track is NOT playing:
then when pressing Start: starts playing track from where it was last stopped.
or when pressing Stop instead: rewinds to the beginning of the track/loop.

  • When a track IS playing:
then when pressing Start: rewinds to the beginning of the track/loop and keeps playing from there.
or when pressing Stop instead: stops the song but does not rewind (pressing Start will then resume from that point, per indicated above, or pressing Stop will rewind to the beginning, per indicated above).
