Wishes per registered device

Hi all!

I have loved working on my Play+ over the last year, so much so that I decided to add a Tracker Mini to the family just a couple weeks ago. I am excited to compose with and be a part of both device’s growth. I’ve spent quite a bit of time going over and putting careful thought into the wishes I would like to see on the Play+, foregoing even some of the more QoL concepts for more functionality. I genuinely want to see the wishes I have voted for retain my votes. Now that I have 2 different pieces of equipment, I am at a serious crossroads of having to remove some of my votes for things I want to see on one for the other. This truly limits the voices of those who have invested in these devices, both financially and creatively. While I feel the 10 vote limit is more than fair, it should be for each piece of gear that is registered to an account.

Thanks for your time! :slightly_smiling_face:

I wouldn’t suggest this, most forums frown on more than one account. At a quick glance I couldn’t find anything in the rules against this, but it certaintly wouldn’t surprise me if they’d ban anyone making a second account.

Yeah, this account just turns every topic into their personal space to air their disdain for polyend. Its not a serious reply, so I’m just ignoring it. Youre right though, it’s a bad idea and only drives a wedge between polyend and the community.

Anyway, back to the topic😊

What are you views on the current wish system? Do you think votes per registered device would be fair?

I hadn’t thought much about it before your post, but I think I’m torn - in one way it makes sense as you have different serial numbers and it does technically mean you should get more votes, but it can also mean you “unfairly” influence the vote of a wish. You are but one person, after all.

Lets say you have two devices, you sell one but keep using your extra votes hoping the buyer doesn’t reach out to Polyend and get their serial registered to their account. That would probably cause issues.

Those are both great points. The latter being a mess to deal with, I’m sure. And I do agree with your statement about the unfairness that could accrue with those who have the most serials. Another slippery slope, for sure.

What if, though, we turn the tables and instead of the user device count, it was based off of the amount of hardware that Polyend has to offer?

They could keep the vote counts relative to the amount of hardware that still receives firmware updates, that way it stays streamlined and serials wouldn’t need to be brought into the mix. Even if they reduced the votes per device a little, that would still be plenty enough for everyone to vote on more than one device if need be.

Another idea could be to half the number of votes per device. One device: 10 votes, two devices: 15 votes, three: 12 votes. But maybe not reduce it less than that ;).

I think this would actually be a solid idea! Especially for those of us that plan of using more than one polyend device🤘

Hey I like the idea, it might be kinda complex to implement. So do you have to own the device to get any votes? Right now technically anyone can vote even if they don’t currently have the device. But if we were assigning votes per device then I guess you would have to own one? Also, then, if you sell it to someone else…you lose your votes? Not even sure this is possible just speculating.

Edit: I removed a flagged post. Attempting to game the voter system is not cool, this isn’t America. It is 10 votes per person, no more. This is unfair to anyone else using their votes properly, will add this as a rule to our terms.

Howdy Mitch! I appreciate you looking into the idea at the very least🤘

That would be the brass tax of it. While, at first, I was thinking of connecting the votes to the account that the device is registered to, but I see what you mean about the issue of transfering votes. Though, what if, instead of connecting the votes to an account, they are registered to the device itself? That way if someone got one second-hand, they would be able to change the votes connected to the serial once it’s registered. Like, say, the play+ gets it’s own kind of votes that can only be used for the play+ wishlist, tracker votes for the tracker wishlist, synth votes for synth wishes, etc. There could be backstage votes for joining the forum, so the 10 votes we already have wouldnt have to go anywhere either. I think the bottom line of what i’m aiming for is how to voice my wishes for the devices I personally use, without sacrificing votes I’ve already cast. I know for me, personally, I have 2 so far and the step and synth are definitely on the list😊Needless to say, 10 votes might run thin quickly. It also might help keep those who’d try and manipulate the system at bay, and generate some sales😜 maybe I’m just an optimist lol

Obviously, this is all speculation as well, so thanks for the consideration!

We Americans don’t like it either and are trying to fix it.

I have a similar enthusiasm for Polyend products, got the Synth, Play+, Tracker Mini trifecta to try out the benefits of that music production ecology.

I can see issues with having votes tied to registrations, least of all implementation, as discussed, though yes, I feel you–having more products might help indicate I have more interest in all of them and of course my vested interest.

I would think that Polyend keeps their voted wishlist going for awhile to keep the highest voted improvements on the top of their todo list, so as long as the order of interest is maintained with votes, I don’t think it will change much of the totality of what gets going.

Perhaps just more votes for everyone might help?

Heh, finally got to my backlog of reading too. Yeah, 15 seems reasonable.
