Watch out for Local Off

Don’t make the same mistake I did. None of my Magenta synths were working yesterday. Nearly went nuts re-flashing firmware, resetting with a pin etc.

Turned out I had turned the Local Off on a Magenta synth in one of my scenes. This is global to all scenes. Totally my fault. It’s on the “Synths” page where items like Voices are which are not global.

Just so you know!..

I feel for you man. Local Off has a history of being a pain in the ass for both users and customer support. Glen Darcy, who is behind all of the Auturia Brute synths went off on this in a great interview and he explained that this was the #1 customer support issue that would come up. When he launched the Hydrasynth with ASM, for years he refused to allow Local Off to be saved when turning off this synth as he feared all the support issues that would come with that. Finally he gave in, but now there a big LOCAL OFF message that shows when you boot the synth

What does the “local on” option on the Synth do? I see the option in the “synths” settings page.

It will simply disable the pads for that Synth. It’s useful when you are using an external controller.

And Sometimes in certain scenes the pads don’t work because external midi clock.

Sorry you struggled with this - but we did make changes on 1.2 if you press a synth grid button and it is in local off there will be an OFF on the screen so you know whats up! And when synths don’t make a sound because there is no external clock.

No, absolutely Mitch! My bad - stupid error from someone who should have known better. Loving the Synth!!

Hello Mitch, since local off/on is under the synths page wouldn’t make sense to set it per scene? Flexible!
