But then I saw on their site that the new one is “multi voltage”
MIDI Solutions MultiVoltage products are compatible with both the original 5V and new 3.3V MIDI specifications.
I looked through the manual but didn’t find an answer, 5V is used when describing MIDI Din 24/48 and the PSU. 3.3, 3.3V or Volt didn’t turn up any results so I’m not sure.
So I’m wondering if I can only get my hands on the old one (5V only) will it work with the Tracker mini? As anyone tried? Does someone know? Do I have to get a volt meter out and figure out how to measure that ?
At that pricepoint i can fully recommend the CME WIDI Thru6. It’s USB powered and then you won’t have to worry about any voltages. It also adds Bluetooth MIDI which would allow you to use a phone or any other bluetooth midi capable device if you’d ever want to.
I use a MIDI Solutions T8, which is an 8-output thru-box (and is “MIDI powered”) and it works just fine - even with no power in between. Never had an issue with the OG, mini, or plus. I’ll admit it was dark magic to me when I started using it but I never questioned it.
Food for thought: I added a Kenton Merge-4 (a 4-to-2 MIDI merge box that is powered, via 9V) in between my Tracker(s)/minilab3/interface and the thru-box - which removes any question of power and gives more routing options/flexibility. Probably the most important piece of my setup.
Edit:
70 bucks is an insane deal for this functionality. Might have to keep this one in mind.
I was also looking at the Midihub – MIDI Interface & Stand-Alone MIDI Processor which has 4 in / 4 out and is configurable, thru, merge and who knows what (filter, repeat, delay…) it’s also powered. No Bluetooth tho. But it’s not in the same price range and I don’t feel I need all that functionality any time soon.
Great find - I’ve never seen this before. Looks like it can do it all, and I think a fair amount of people could live without the bluetooth (although it’s becoming more popular with mobile/etc).
I would personally take this box over your OP. While over twice the price, it’ll give you some room to grow when the time comes without needing to replace anything in your routing.
I like MIDI Solutions MultiVoltage Quadra Thru. You connect it and you have 4 extra midi-out ports without any additionally options or settings, which at the end of the day could be distracting. Simplicity <3
Midihub would be something I would consider, if I had more devices where I needed to filter midi data or midi channels…etc… [complexity]
I can 100% recommend the Blokas Midihub - if you require that kind of flexibility in your studio. While more expensive, it’s actually pretty cheap considering its functionality. Punching way above its price segment. Similar in functionality/price there is also the Retrokits RK-006.
I use the Blokas Midihub in conjunction with the aformentioned WIDI Thru 6. It’s a swiss army knive when it comes to MIDI in your studio.
If y’all got any questions regarding these devices, just let me know.
