Using Tracker+ as a MIDI Controller for Ableton Live – Anyone doing machine-style live sets?

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone here is using the Tracker+ primarily as a MIDI controller for Ableton Live, especially for machine-style live performances.

What I’m interested in is:

  • Using Tracker+ in Perform mode

  • Sending MIDI CC from knobs/pads to Ableton

  • Controlling Live’s effects (Beat Repeat, filters, distortion, etc.)

  • Possibly triggering clips or scenes

  • Building a hybrid machine live setup where Ableton handles audio processing and Tracker acts as the physical control surface

I know Tracker is not designed specifically as a DAW controller, but I’m curious whether anyone has successfully built a stable and expressive workflow around this idea.

If you are doing something similar, I’d love to know:

  • How are you routing MIDI? (USB or DIN?)

  • Any latency issues?

  • Are you using MIDI CC mapping only, or custom Max for Live devices?

  • Is Perform mode reliable for this purpose in a live context?

I’m aiming for a hands-on, unstable, machine-driven performance style rather than a pre-arranged playback setup.

Any experiences, tips, or warnings would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
