User-Assignable Instrument Automation Destinations

It would be nice if users could add/create user-assignable destinations in the instrument automation, that can be affected by the envelope or an LFO.

What is the problem?

Currently users can only automate Volume, Panning, Cutoff, Wavetable/Granular Position and Finetune.

What do you want to achieve?

Opening up all the existing sound design properties to be automated.
Possible destinations include:

  • Filter Resonance
  • Instrument Tune (useful with a square wave lfo)
  • Bit Depth
  • Overdrive
  • Loop Start or End point
  • LFO shape and/or rate
  • Delay time, feedback, filter
  • Reverb size, damping, predelay, diffusion
  • Volume ADSR
  • Filter ADSR

:information_source: Feel free to add your own destinations

Are there any workarounds?

Not really aside from performing these live. But you may want to “print” these effects in and be able to export stems witht hem.

Any links to related discussions?

there are a couple on github but couldn’t find any on backstage. Another related request was for key tracking for filters etc, it would be nice to have this as an additional option in the adsr page and fx

Any references to other products?

Hey @thomasdavidbradley , i’ve taken the liberty of rewording your wish to make it clearer. I hope this still entails what you are looking for.

I encourage everyone to update / add destinations that you would like to see automatable.

Bumping this for visibility. Still looking for acknolwedgment by @thomasdavidbradley and still looking for more destinations for automations. If anyone has more, please let us know.

Sorry for slow response - I think we should as a basic have volume envelope parameters (Adsr) as fx but also open up filter envelope too. Idea is to be able to assign them to a fixed number of slots per instrument so the list of fx doesn’t become too long or maybe be able to set them as project or device defaults

No worries. So the ones i’ve added to your original wish are good enough for you? Or is there anything you would add?

Yeah good examples - envelope parameters for volume and filter as essential everything else nice to have!

@thomasdavidbradley Hi, thanks for your wish, it’s ready for voting!

Not sure if it’s too late to add more destinations but I would suggest other parameters like LFO shape and rate and also the delay and reverb parameters (other than send vol of course). I am not sure if automating these parameters are even technically possible but just putting it out there. Cheers

Hey @therealhdea . Feel free to add them to the original post. It should be editable by everyone.
