Unexplained Issue

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a couple of persistent issues and wanted to check whether other users are experiencing similar behaviour, or if Polyend staff have any insight.

1. LED Grid Inconsistency

The LED grid does not always accurately reflect the actual state of the pattern or parameters.

Examples:

  • Steps appear lit or inactive incorrectly

  • LED feedback sometimes lags behind what is actually playing

  • Certain modes or views show LEDs that don’t correspond to the current data until I switch patterns, tracks, or modes

This makes it difficult to rely on the visual feedback, especially during performance or fast editing.

2. Parameters Randomly Changing

I’m also seeing parameters change without intentional input.

This includes:

  • Parameter values shifting unexpectedly

  • Steps or tracks behaving differently after returning to a project

  • Behaviour changing without touching encoders, pads, or deliberately recording automation

I’ve checked for:

  • No external MIDI CC input affecting parameters

  • No unintended automation

  • No obvious copy/paste or pattern chaining issues

What I’ve Tried

  • Flashed / reinstalled the firmware

  • Power-cycled the device

  • Verified no external MIDI is influencing parameters

The issues still occur intermittently and are not always immediately reproducible, which makes troubleshooting difficult.

Hi @zerrikowilson, welcome to backstage

Regarding the grid LEDs, it’s the first I have heard about it. Could you please be a bit more specific about where you are seeing those issues.

For the Random Parameters; is it consistently one specific parameter or does it feel like it is randomized? I asked because sometimes dirt or debris can get into a knob and cause this kind of behavior. The fix is usually just to turn the impacted knob for a minute back and forth.

How are you usually powering the Play?

Hi, thanks for the welcome and for following up.

Grid LEDs:

The issue occurs on the main grid pads. Certain pads will intermittently fail to light when they should, briefly flicker, or display inconsistent brightness compared to surrounding pads. It’s most noticeable when switching patterns, modes, or pages rather than during static playback. This behavior is repeatable and visible in the videos I shared.

Random parameter changes:

It does not appear to be one specific parameter or knob. The changes affect different parameters across tracks and feel genuinely randomized rather than drifting from a single control. I’ve already tried rotating all knobs back and forth for an extended period to rule out debris, but the issue continues to occur afterward.

Power / troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Tested multiple power supplies (USB power, dedicated adapter, and alternatives)

  • Updated to the latest firmware

  • Reformatted the SD card

Despite all of this, the issues persist.

Please let me know if there are any additional diagnostics you’d like me to run or if there’s anything specific you’d like me to test next.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for those details. You mentioned a video but I do not see any on your post. Any chance you could add it again.

These are not issues that have come up before and I think your best bet would be to directly contact support. The link is below. I’d also suggest adding a link to this thread to help give some additional context to you issue.

Thanks for the reply.

It looks like I’m unable to upload videos directly to the forum — I don’t seem to have permission to attach video files here. That’s why they aren’t appearing in the thread.

I’ve already contacted support and shared the videos and a detailed description of the issues there, but I haven’t received a response yet. I’ll also include a link to this forum thread in the support ticket so everything is connected.

Please let me know if there’s another preferred way to share the videos publicly (external link, etc.).

Thanks again for your help.

You’re very most welcome. Providing you were able to share the video with support, that is what’s most important. I don’t think there is much more help I can provide as the issues you are having unfortunately sound like they are hardware related. Support will take good care of you. It might be a tad slow due to everyone getting back from holidays and ramping back to the day to day.

Wish you luck! :crossed_fingers:
