I have a Tracker and a Play but (because I purchased them second hand) only a single Polyend supplied 3.5 mm TRS type-B MIDI cable. I’m after a second cable but if I get one from the Polyend store it’s going to set me back about $25 for a $9 cable because of postage.
Anyone found a decent one of these available in the UK for a good price? There are some apparently on eBay but from overseas (China and a tad surprisngly to me, France???) and I’d rather not purchase that way if I can find a UK supplier.
Just one thing - these are the right type-B but are male and I need a female version - can I just throw a male-female converter on it and go from there? Going to add to the cost. The Thomann price is excellent for the three pack and even with 10UKP for postage it’s still reasonable
Yes you can, that shouldn’t cause any issues, the important bit was the wiring from DIN to Jack and that is taken care of within the Befaco cable already.
I agree, if it was one cable i wouldn’t have suggested it, but for three of em. Well worth it
I actually need it to connect to my hardware synths. I’ve hooked up the Tracker to a couple of my outboard machines with great success, and am moving on to getting to know the Play this coming week, so wanted a cable to save me swapping stuff about all the time. Not thought about linking the Tracker w/the Play - more fun awaits me!
The TRS-MIDI that came with the Tracker was TRS to Female so without thinking about it much, I assumed that for compabibility I’d need the same. On my system I just used a standard MIDI DIN cable M-M between the TRS and my hardware MIDI male input. My synths are a way away from the tracker so cabling this way meant I could have the Tracker on my desk and the hardware some way off.
Just looked and the cables at Thomann are 1.5m long which would be enough I think, so the problem I didn’t actually have might just have disappeared!
Here’s one for you then guys - why is the Polyend supplied TRS-MIDI cable TRS to Female in the first place?
TRS (male) to DIN (female) is the standard when it comes to those cables (most if not all manufacturers supply these).
The reason being, most people own DIN (male) to DIN (male) cables - which is as you know what you require to connect between MIDI Gear.
So this means, with the supplied adapter you can connect a regular MIDI cable to the DIN (female) part of the adapter and use it with your existing DIN MIDI Gear
The Befaco cables are meant to be those two cables in one - as in: no further chaining of cables required. If you must have it longer, you can usually just get a MIDI extension cable, which then would be DIN (female) to DIN (male).
You can get type B from amazon, quite inexpensively, and if you’ve got prime, then no extra shipping. Just make sure you read the description. You can even get them in other colours, I even bought a bunch in red, so I could tell them apart from the A version in my go bag.
I looked on Amazon (.co.uk) initally but nothing jumped out as the right spec. Any chance you could send me a link to what you got, and I’ll go from there please?
Thanks very much. I found the ZAWDIO cable on the UK Amazon site, but the price is ridiculous compared to the Canadian one, namely that the Canadian price is $16.99, the UK one is £27.53 which comes in at around $55.
Looks like Thomann’s three for £9.40 plus £10 postage is the way to go!
