Tracker Mini w/Scroll Wheel

I am about 2 weeks into using my tracker mini and I honestly love the workflow and how easy it is to start/complete a piece. I was thinking that this would be next level if (sorry for speaking it into existence) on a tracker mini2 they replace the up/down/left/right buttons on the d-pad with a scroll wheel and keep the enter button in the middle of it. I think this would speed up workflow tremendously. The potential con is that it’s great for up and down scrolling but would need a work around for lateral movements. The solution I came up with was a key combo of shift and scroll for lateral moves. What do you guys think?

So here’s the delusional addition to the post:

When I presented this on Reddit, someone sent me a link to the anniversary edition coming out soon which the user presented as a tracker mini with a scroll wheel. This caused a discussion where another user pointed out that although the new layout appears to be a scroll ring it actually isn’t. Before that was revealed, I almost immediately went to preorder one, which brings me here.

I know there’s likely no scenario that they can make this change on such short notice but I figured I would bring it up anyways. Is there a way the polyend team could take this in consideration and make an update to the anniversary edition where it includes a scroll wheel instead of the d-pad? I only figured I would bring it up because I see that each unit is built to order and aren’t projected to ship till November at the earliest. I’m not presenting this in a whining way or as an ultimatum because the tracker mini holds a special place in my heart now and I will likely order the anniversary edition anyway but frankly I would even pay more (reasonably so) to have this as an upgraded option.

Anyway, I’m new here to the community and don’t intend to ruffle feathers or pretend to have superior knowledge to the polyend team but if this is something that’s feasible I think the user base would greatly appreciate it. Also, I’m sure this has been discussed before but I’m still learning how to navigate the forums so forgive me if this isn’t the place for it (and the lengthy post). I typically have more couth than this lol

Hey @wwjdd, welcome to Backstage! It’s good to have ya!

Glad to hear you are enjoying yourself!

It’s funny - i think most people’s reaction to the Anniversary Edition (including myself) was exactly that: “is this a scrollwheel!? :open_mouth:

But yes.. as you found out, it is (sadly) not. And as you also surmmized correctly - it’s a little too late for that change to occur now. As that would mean going over the boards again, finding the right encoders and pushing everything back indefinitely for testing / prototyping / durability testing etc.

It’s all good - at no point does your inquiry come over as whiney or anything. You’re just asking a question and hopefully i have provided you with some background and answers :hugs:

It has come up ones or twice, but it’s all good

Again - welcome! And if you got any questions, feel free to ask us anything.
Folks here are super friendly and quick to extend a helping hand

You have actually, I have 0 understanding about what goes into product development and certainly didn’t factor in things like durability testing. Naivete is funny like that because clearly I thought they could just reach into their mini scroll wheel drawer and bring this to fruition pretty fast lol. I also did some searching around the community and it looks like Mitch mentioned that they had iterations of the mini that included the scroll wheel and decided to go with the d-pad instead. I trust that there was a valid reason behind this even though selfishly I still covet this option. Thank you for taking the time to address this!
