Actually, there is no definitive standard when it comes to TRS, hence why we have the A/B/C mess. It would be up to all manufacturers to come together and decide which one to use.
Atleast C is pretty much extinguished at this point. But there still a few that use Type B as well.
The MIDI Association does officially recommend TRS Type A though. The MIDI 2.0 specs also lean towards TRS-A.
Yes everything is Type B. I totally understand it, from a Polyend ecosystem perspective.
But even so, what i’d love to see in the future is:
- MIDI In to be A/B agnostic in the future (using Jakplugg’s solution)
- MIDI Out to be switchable (physically via a jumper/switch or digitally via a setting)
But this is beyond the scope of this request of course. So if anyone feels so inclined, feel free to create a feature request for future devices
