Tracker Mini crashing/freezing after 2.0 update

Bug Description

Tracker Mini crashes/freezes less than a minute after booting. Crash seems to be unavoidable as it happens whether or not the device is doing anything (playback or otherwise). SD card has only the stock content from the Polyend site.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Turn on Tracker Mini
  2. Wait (Playback/Menus/Anything)
  3. Tracker Mini locks up, emitting granular synth sound if it happens during playback.

Occurrence

*bug is reproducible *

Happens every time I boot up the 2.0 firmware, 1.0 and 1.1 seem to function properly.

Hi @soundfont.mi, Thank you for reporting this issue.

I would recommend formatting your SD card.

  1. Back up all of your projects and your own samples using the USB dongle
  2. Format the SD card (the format needs to be FAT 32 MBR)
  3. Download the fresh SD card content from our website (your unit has to be registered to do so)
  4. Copy the SD card content onto your formatted SD card
  5. Copy your backed-up projects onto the SD card
  6. Turn on the Mini and let me know if it helped

Following up on this since we haven’t heard back from you @soundfont.mi.
Did you have a chance to try out @borsuk’s suggestion?

I’m experiencing some freezing as well on my mini with the 2.0.1 update.

I’m a new user who bought a second hand unit.

I tried the suggested method. But it resulted on a crash as well, while playing back what I programmed in search of inspiration.

Do you have any reproducable steps that could help Polyend in pinpointing the issue?

What I could say is that it happend :

  • while playing back the track (before and after the SD card formatting)
  • while listening for samples to chose (before the SD card formatting)
  • once during a project loading (before the formatting as well).

I will continue to play with it and will report if anything new pops up.

If anyone needs more info, feel free to ask and I’ll tell you.

Edit : since I am a newcomer, I also regularly ask the tracker for a blank project using the file manager, not saving the current one, if it is of any relevance.

Edit n#2 : just happend while I was scrolling up when playing back the tune I work on. Only 2 tracks yet. 1 drum synth on midi 16 (acting as a click) and a couple of stereo drum samples on track 1.

@clem3000 Thanks for reporting this issue.
We will investigate. Is it possible to attach the last project which caused the crash? Including all the samples that you used?

Sure !

Here it is nothing fancy.
I know it crashes, because it just happened.

I can’t attach it (since I’m a new user), but you can acess it through my one drive here :

I don’t know how the tracker operates but I was considering switching for a newer/faster sd card, the issue looking mostly playback related…

But that could be irrelevant since it is purely speculation on my behalf.

Tracker loads the samples into memory, so the SD card is only during loading/saving.

I also haven’t tried any older firmware.

As I said, it’s a 2nd hand unit which already had the 2.0 firmware which I upgraded to the 2.0.1

Hey @clem3000, just checking in how things are going.

Wanted to let you know that i’m attempting to reproduce your behaviour and will get back to you. :crossed_fingers:

Just been running your project for 18 minutes while tweaking the beat piece by piece - like the groove btw  - and haven’t encountered a crash yet.

How long would it usually take you say?
By the way you described it, it should probably have already happened?

I’ve noticed you wrote that you are runing 2.0.1 now?
So i’m guessing 2.0.1 Build 1061 ? How’s that going?
You also stated you were considering changing cards - did you end up doing that?

Hey ! thanks for coming back. Sorry I’ve been busy last couple of weeks.

Yes, I ended up changing the card and the issue is still there, but it doesn’t seem to happen very often.

Last time it happened when time stretching a sample. It just froze.

Everytime it happens, I just have to reboot the device and it works again.

Hmm. That is odd.

But no more crashes when it just “sits” there?

Based on the info we have and seeing that i can’t get it to crash on my end, even while fiddling around, it’ll be kinda hard to determine things based on the project alone.

If it doesn’t bother you all that much, i recommend keeping an eye out if you recognize any patterns when this happens and keep us up to date.

Or if it does bother you, you might want to get in touch with customer support directly, so they can check out the hardware itself (and reference this post of course).

Let me know how you’d like to proceed! :hugs:
