I think a natural follow up to Synth for a Polyend product would be a drum machine similar to Synth but with Drum Engines. When I say that out loud, I would REALLLY want it to incorporate various Play elements in itâs generative/Chance/repeat function.
Will also point out that despite my Mod hat, Iâm speculating just like anyone else and I have zero inside knowledge of anything coming up
My humble suggestion would be a sort of âhubâ for Polyend devices: It has USB inputs, you can connect (and power) you devices from it and it serves as a multi channel mixer taking in all the USB audio channels from the connected devices, with flexible routing and external send fx. It also itself serves as a USB audio interface passing on whatever channels youâve configured in itâs internal routing to the computer. Maybe some additional analog inputs for other gear. And of course a way to get the mix out (maybe even 2 or 3 different mixes), to make it work standalone without a computer. A reasonable amount of faders, knobs and a big, crisp display, of course.
On my side I wish for a very versatile groove box, taking ideas from Synth, Tracker and Play.
I mean Tracker is not a groove box workflow, but it can sample, Play is a proper groove box workflow but canât sample. Maybe there is need for a product in between the two and that also includes all the engines of Synth.
Right now my preference goes to Polandâs tracker products because of the lack of sampling in the Play series.
If there had to be a new product category, yes maybe a mixer as some say, or why not a controller that takes cues form all the tactile and workflow pleasures we can find on their other products.
Oh jeez ⌠i probably should have added ârobust buildâ, to my demands
Why is that thing so small !? I mean itâs cuteâŚ
but no thanks - i very much prefer something more sturdy and less finnicky
Thereâs a reason why dj mixers are a certain size.
I want to be able to throw a fader and not worry that my device goes flying at the same time
Iâm sure itâs a cool device, but that would not be for me and thatâs ok.
Itâs one of the reasons why i donât like TE devices or things like the Yamaha Seqtrak.
I have a few mini things (no longer much TE except PO-Speak which I love), but things like T8, NTS-1 and ⌠Tracker mini. So I guess itâs more suitable for my type of setup.
Still in the mini world but very sturdy, I use the 1010music Bluebox. Very nice mixer with midi host and TRS MIDI I/O. Itâs all on TRS though. If you want a big heavy mixer with MIDI, then you can go directly Xone 96
The Roland MX1 was also a good idea (less in the djing world) with both analog audio/midi and USB audio/MIDI host functionality but it is kinda of an abandonware right now and it also has some defects or weird design choices like non class compliant audio/midi on the device port.
You mean like those âbread and butterâ devices, which Roland, Korg and Yamaha has been pushing for years too? [Motif, ModX, Krome, Jupiter-80]âŚetcâŚ
Where you have too much in one box, without actually appreciating any of the features, which are usually bought by those guys who play cover songs at your 50+ birthday party?
Though usually not fan of Rolandâs products in terms of workflow, you canât imagine how much I love my Roland Verselab MV1. I made much more than covers with it. Very inspiring device and surprisingly easy to use for a Roland product (very used in making mortal Kombat combo style workflows which I hate).
I think if Polyend puts its own creativity in a âdo it all in the boxâ device like that, they can come up with something pretty good.
I already find we can pretty much make an album with the Tracker mini but could be great to have a groovebox workflow with sampling.
