Step - stereo input

What is the input on Polyend Step used for?

Can the Master Effects be applied to the Input signal? That would be a feature request I guess…

to plug your guitar in, I guess. but truth to be said, guitar amps and their speakers aren’t really supposed to be used for drums, it doesn’t sound right most of the time. on top of that, you won’t be able to crank your amp just for your guitar in case you need it. or to use spring reverb applied to your instrument.

all in all, drum machines should have separate signal paths and separate sound sources, in my humble opinion.

Input is to route any instrument without requiring a seperate mixer - as with amps it does depend on your setup, and with an amp with an effects loop I would put it in the FX loop to bypass your preamp and get a better sound. If you are using an amp with just one input then you will get all the amp effects applied ot everything as mentioned above.

Most people I see playing out (myself included) just go direct into a PA from a modeler these days, so you could always have your guitar setup first and then the Step at the end of chain.

Sorry master effects cannot be applied to the input signal. This is a hardware limitation as the line input is not routed into the effects processor.

Ok. IMO this is awesome and just how I would want it to work, if I’m understanding it correctly. Stereo input basically just goes straight through, unaffected by anything in the Step, allowing you to have a final output that contains both your guitar chain and the Step output. If you want it to be separate you can very easily do that by just running two sets of cables, but if you want a single cable output, then you’ve got it. Right?

Yes this is correct!

@Mitch

Trying to figure out how I’d hook the STEP up when it comes (hopefully tomorrow but if not then monday).

The step has a stereo in. So would this work. I have ZOIA and MESS in my Axe-FX III fx loop right now.

If I did ZOIA → MESS → STEP → AXE-FX 3, would that work and from my understanding the stereo in on STEP is just like a pass through or something along the lines? So that should pass the stereo signals from ZOIA and MESS into STEP and back into my AXE-FX 3 fine and work ok?

Hey Brock! Yeah that should work, in this case you would need 2 Stereo TRS to Dual Mono cables to keep it all in stereo.
