Shifting all events equally, aka sliding all events in a pattern around like on a Slide Projector

What is the problem?

Hi all, first post, owner of the Tracker, Play & Synth, and likely upgrader to the Tracker Plus soon. This isn’t a problem necessarily, but i’m sure many experience it when one makes a beat or loop whose musical groove & turnaround is not at a defined start of the pattern or ends up being in a weird place on the grid, in other words, sometimes i’ll just drop in random samples and shift them around until i get a cool loop or musical phrase that i like, that i can then loop and build off of but the timing of when that phrase starts is like starting on 3 in a count of 1 2 3 4.
This can be difficult sometimes when trying to create new parts for it or, worst case, you then have to go through and delete all the stuff around it and the manually delete and re enter each note (or where you can, sets of notes with copy and paste)

What should this feature achieve?

The new feature i’d love to see is to treat the Grid and overlaid Events like a Slide Projector, or maybe like a real electromechanical Piano Roll. Here’s an analogy: The grid is the light on the bottom marked 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc vertically, and then the Events that we place on top are drawn on a transparent sheet that we place over the grid, so that Kick is on 3 and Snare on 4 etc. So what if we could either “slide” that transparency up so that the Kick and Snare each slide equally up so that the Kick is now on 1 and the Snare on 2, or “slide” the Grid up and down “underneath” all the notes to achieve the same thing. If a event “slides” past the “end” of a pattern, it should wrap around like a piano roll, so in a 12 step pattern, 12 becomes 1, 1 becomes 2 and so on. This is a feature i would find incredibly useful for resetting the downbeat on patterns that i make.

Are there any workarounds?

Usually i just resample that section and then trim the sample, but sometimes that also doesn’t seem to fit the grid properly so i’ll use microtiming or whatever to get it to fit. Or, i’ll copy everything to a new pattern, delete the unused stuff, and then painstakingly re-enter each event starting on the downbeat i want it to be on

I guess the closest modern thing is copying and pasting multiple notes at the same time in a DAW, but really i think of this like a Piano Roll in the truest sense, with a spindle at a piece of paper with holes punched in it. If you rotate the spindle, you change where those holes in the paper land, and therefore the downbeat.

I hope this all makes sense, thanks for listening!

I’m in the habit of selecting, copying, deleting, then pasting.

You can also press insert to nudge everything below the cursor down a step in that track.

I can see where selecting phrases, and using the d pad to move them left/right/up/down, would be useful.
