Sampling external instrument : what's your workflow?

Hi, the question is in the title : how do you work when it come to sample externals instruments (guitar, piano, whatever), and use them in a projet ?

  • Do you sample a whole “sentence“ then cut it after ? Do you work note by note (or chord by chord) ?
  • How do you name your samples (“instrument - note” ?) ?
  • How do handle the “root note“ of your sample : let’s say I sample a “G“ chord, is it possible to mark my sample as a G ? (this is more a support question actually :p)

I play in a phrase of one or more bars (or in terms of the tracker one pattern) its easier to just play what i want than sample one note and programm it afterwards. Then mangle it and cut it to your liking.

For melodic content instrument_key_number, for rhythmic content instrument_bpm_number.

The phrase is in the key of the song, the rootnote of the recording is always c5 (original playback speed of the sample)

You “mark” your sample with proper naming.
