Sample Playback in Granular Mode - Freezes when modifying Position and Length

Bug Description

When using an Instrument with Granular Playback and adjusting the Length and Position via MIDI CC, the device freezes after a while.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Load the attached project
  2. Make sure you are playing the first instrument
  3. Make sure you enable MIDI In and MIDI In CC
  4. Adjust the Granular Position (CC16) and Granular Length (CC17) via MIDI CC.
  5. Depending on how fast you adjust these parameters (or resulting sizes) the Mini will eventually crash. The faster you move the position the sooner it freezes.

Occurrence

Always

There is also a video available from the reporter that showcases the crash:

Hey @joaquindiazescultor, welcome to backstage!
Sorry you are having problems with the Mini and thank you for reporting this.

I’ve taken the liberty to rewrite your bug report so it uses the official form/template.
Hope that is ok.

Quick question: when you say “adjust position and length in real time” you mean in the sample playback view, by changing the values there?

Do you per chance have a video of the behaviour, or could you create a short video clip that shows this in action? This would probably be useful for the devs.

Hi @joaquindiazescultor , and thanks @Sandroid for the intro
my questions are: is your sample memory in this project full or close to full?
Would you be comfortable sharing the project so we can quickly investigate and try to reproduce the issue?
Might be also problem with specific sample or settings.
Thank you for your support!
Miro

Hi @joaquindiazescultor , any updates on this one? Thanks!

I have just noticed I answered by email to the noreplay@…

I did sent you the following a week ago lol. This is the message lost in time:

Hi Miro,

Great to be in contact with you.

I don’t have problems with sharing my project, I attach it to the mail.

I also attached an image with the configured MIDI of my Arturia MNL3, the controls I am using are the CC 16 and 17 for controlling in real time position and length.

Before sending this email I have tried many different samples from the original pack of the minitracker and all of them make the minitracker collapse.

I also have checked the memory in use and it is at 18%.

I made more tests, like modifying also not from the sample playback but when playing a pattern and it takes more time but in some moment it crashes.

I really appreciate your help, I really would like to use this function of my Minitarcker. I am planning to connect it to a wearable instrument I am developing.

Hey @joaquindiazescultor, just send you an access request for your project files so i can help you with this. I have access to a Minilab 3, so i should be able to reproduce what you are experiencing!

Thanks for lending me access!

I also have this video made to show how it happens.

Thank you for the video, that’s super useful and thanks for the access.
I’ll try and reproduce it and will get back to ya!

Hey @joaquindiazescultor, just wanted to let you know i tested your project (damn - that needs a loudness warning my friend :joy:).

I can confirm, i can reproduce the same behaviour you experience.
As soon as you play with the Granular Length and Position CC’s you’ll end up crashing the Mini.

I’ve created a simplified test project that i’ll attach to the original post of yours and i may change some wording.

Thanks for all your details!

Hi @joaquindiazescultor Thank you for reporting this bug. We managed to reproduce it. We will do our best to resolve it and notify you when it’s ready.
