What is the problem?
I like synth and sample one shots, and I like to have them in a kit form. When synth stabs and chords (or percussion) are combined in a slice instrument, you can play them in ways from the grid or keyboard you would never be able to as separate one shot instruments. It was the “Synth Shots” instrument that came with the tracker that opened my eyes to this. But the way to make kits on the tracker is time consuming and involves numerous steps.
- sampling and saving, every sound you want in the kit separately.
- placing each separate sample on different steps
- listening to the pattern, and probably changing the steps in order for the sample not to cut off the tail of the previous sample
- selecting all and rendering to a new sample
- adding slice points to the start and end points of each sample within the instrument
- finished
What should this feature achieve?
I propose a multi staged sampling mode. Where you woud press record, sample in your synth chord (or whatever) and then press stop, and that sample is assigned to the first slice of a waiting beat slice/slice instrument. You then sample a second time, and this sample is stored to the second slice in the same kit. And on and on you go, to the maximum slice number of 48.
I think this streamlined process would really improve the slice instruments and people will use them more in all kinds of ways. It will also make the sampler far more useful, as the steps from a single sample to multi shot sample instrument would be far less time consuming and user friendly. Also sometimes 128 steps isn’t always enough space for resampling the sounds you want in your kit (pads etc).
Are there any workarounds?
The original method of resampling works, but is cumbersome. There are a couple of apps on computer that work, but obviously not on the tracker. I’m suggesting a method that I think would streamline the process, but the process is possible.

Not that I know of.
Any references to other products?
The MPC has recently added a pad sample feature. But it’s completely different to what i’m suggesting.
