Repurpose the loop effect pads for USB audio

What is the problem?

When streaming/recording audio from the Play+ into a DAW through USB, the loop effect pads (aka pink pads) in Perform mode serve no useful purpose. As mastering is usually done on the DAW side in such scenarios, they have no effect.

What should this feature achieve?

These pads could send MIDI notes on configured MIDI channel. This way, the user would be able to map the notes to 16 different FXs in their DAW, not only looping ones. This would greatly enhance Perform mode usability with audio over USB.

Are there any workarounds?

Use the recently introduced finger drumming mode to trigger FX in a DAW, but that requires switching out of Perform mode which breaks the performance flow. Another problem with finger drumming mode is that note lengths are baked into steps, so it’s not possible to apply an effect for as long as a pad is held.
