Random Sequencer Speeds

What is the problem?

I am not sure how to write this out but I’ll do my best.

So basically I’d like to see an option that gives us a auto random speed for each effect sequencer. I am not sure if this is the right phrase to use or not…

What should this feature achieve?

Basically give us an option that can be set in settings or in each effect and when turned on it’ll go through the steps on the sequencer at different speeds but randomly.

Like it could be slow for a few steps and then speed up a few steps, then slow, then slow, then speed up, slow, speed up, speed up, speed up, slow etc. etc.

While we’re at it, also options for reverse, random step skipping, forward/reverse on the sequencer would be great too.

This would bring more of a different atmosphere to the sequencer and effects.

NOTE: If someone knows what I’m talking about and has a better way of describing it, please do lol.

Are there any workarounds?

Nah

Any links to related discussions?

Nah.

Any references to other products?

Not sure?

Love this idea. If implemented, I really hope the random speeds would have the option to sync with midi clock.

I am still curious as to if you see this being on a completely random frequency of the speed, or if it’s tied to a clock, or the option for both?

I’m not sure either. Whatever it is and if it happens, both always seems like the sensible answer. The more the better? lol

I don’t get it. Are there other devices that do this? If it’s entirely random, why not just drive it from another device through MIDI? Thanks

The best thing about randomization features with audio in general is it’s a huge help to inspire my gear interaction routine. If I feel like my sounds aren’t going anywhere fast, a simple randomization of a preset, parameters, or arrangement instantly triggers my desire to dive deeper with any session. I would love for the Mess to have lots of randomization features that would make this already wonderful sounding fx pedal so much more intriguing and fun to use. I can only hope that Polyend is fully aware of the potential of this type of implementation. I believe it would make the Mess worth more than it currently costs :slightly_smiling_face:

I know it’s not a solid solution, but there is lots of software out there capable of sending out random CC values. Bitwig and the Max for Live stuff in Ableton are 2 good examples to create pseudo random for any gear that has MIDI in.

Yeah I don’t do software unless it’s an editor for something lol. I like hardware stuff lol

Yes, exactly this. I went dawless to get away from the mind numbing computer to/from hardware interaction. The only time I use a daw is to record direct usb audio from my hardware setup during live sessions into AUM to be added later to recorded video sessions. This method has lowered my stress levels a lot since I don’t produce music to make money, I do live jams to relax and have fun with the gear.
