Hi,
I have a few questions that I would appreciate any advice with in as simple a way as possible:
-
I have bought several palettes from polyend. Verdant was pretty good for piano sounds and Bones was fine for percussion, but I am struggling with the one called Chords, which is ostensibly guitar chords and single notes. I have of course placed the mono samples in all the right folders (DWA, Grain and WTFM) but I am fighting to get any of them them to sound even remotely like guitar. I feel like I have tried fiddling with every parameter with no success. Should I have used the stereo samples (If stereo samples are no good, why are they even IN there?) or try something else?
-
I have noticed that I am increasingly getting the message ‘failed to load sample’ especially when using DWA engine. I have kept samples below 250, so it’s not that, and sometimes it works fine. I used to constantly get warnings about CPU overload, but that seems to have stopped now. Any possible connection?
-
Is it simply because the synth is CPU underpowered, or is there another reason why you can’t really latch down an Arp or two plus a sequence and then play single notes on top of that, all in one engine simultaneously, even if you allocate 6 voices to it. The notes all kind of interfere with one another. Is it unreasonable to expect the synth to be able to do that?
-
Why does almost nobody post their Synth musical projects here? Is it just not cool, or is it because like me, they can’t figure out how to do it?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Hey @misslanastraw i’ll try and answer as best as i can.
Regarding Question 1
I haven’t tried that pack myself, but if i find time i’ll give it a try and will report back.
The packs are built so that anyone can use them (even in your DAW), which is why Mono and Stereo samples are provided to cover as many possible usecases.
As far as i’m aware all the Synth engines only support mono samples i think.
Regarding Question 2
That message can mean a lot of things. File too big, WAV-format issues (bitrate, sampling rate). Did you have a specific sample that this occured with? If so, could you provide some details on it or upload it for testing?
Regarding Question 3
I think the issue here is that arps and sequences take priority over additional notes being played and they might get “drowned out” from the next “programmed” note. Maybe if you could share an example of what exactly you are doing i can give some suggestions or provide further details.
Regarding Question 4
Good question! Mine are already inside the Synth and i usually don’t share projects because.. i actually don’t know
. The next time i have a project i’ll make sure to upload it.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.
RE Q2 - All my samples either came with the synth or have been loaded from palettes so being too big, format issues etc seems unlikely. And the same samples will work fine at another time, or, of course, when previously loaded into another project. I would say that every sample that refuses to load at a specific time, has loaded at another time. Weird, eh?
Re Q3; On reflection, I think that the issue here might just be that the single notes I’m trying to play might already be being played at the same time in the ARP or sequencer, especially when these engines are followers. I tend to use 3x3 grid layout, so there aren’t that many different notes available!
Q4. Go for it…and show us how it is done!
