.pti file structure question

I just purchased the FM and Oscillator .pti files from @Aisjam – I wanted to make sure I didn’t make any mistakes loading them on my SD Card. I changed the names of some of the folders, and put all the folders with the .pti files in the master Instrument folder. I put all the sample and wavetable folders in the master Samples folder. When I go to the Instruments folder, all of the new .pti’s are there, and they all play on preview. I assume that means they are working? And my renaming and folder-locating didn’t mess anything up? Thanks, just wanting to confirm the Instruments are working as designed…

You’re fine, pti and wav files can go anywhere on the SD card, they don’t even have to be in the sample or instrument folder. For example, i created a “library” folder, where everything sample related goes in (pti and wav).
A few things to pay attention to:

  1. Its a unix based file system and therefore case sensitive matters. Also its ascii, so no utf8 based characters are regognized.
  2. If you rename pti, you still get the original name in the sample loader, name is saved in the file itself. A pti is a wav sample with additional bytes for instrument parameters.
  3. Max file count is 100, so you can have up to 100 files or folders per folder. Everything above that limit is not shown in the sample loader.

Tldr: pti are self contained and play back as intented ( stereo pti only work correctly on PT+)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for this excellent and full explanation. I was piecing it together via the user manual, and you have clearly stated here what I was beginning to suspect. I go back to the dark ages w computers so these lean & mean architectures always present some conceptual challenges!

You’re welcome, always happy to help!

Thanks @Patrick, The way to hear the instrument is by loading it in. I remember there was a wish on here about having preview instrument instead of the sample.

Thank you for the support too @steve-5982

Thanks for the clarification, that’s a very helpful piece of additional information. …Appreciate your follow up!

Yeah it was your own wish wich was unfortunately declined:

There’s a similar wish for wt preview, not very popular though:
