Polyend Synth Knobs Leaving Black Marks

Lately for some reason I am getting black marks on my fingers from twisting the knobs on Polyend Synth. It just started happening last few days for some odd reason.

I keep my apartment around 70 degrees and between 40% to 50% humidity all year long as much as I can, so I don’t think it has to do with weather.

Also I don’t remember my other one I had doing this either.

Anyone getting the same thing or a clue why?

Apparently, the synthesizer is being used in very dirty conditions. I recommend that you use the equipment in cleaner conditions. It feels as if you are renovating the room and simultaneously playing Live Jam sets.

It would be interesting to see how the synthesizer looks after cleaning off the dirt and carefully wiping the knobs.

By the way, here’s a lifehack for you.
Keep your equipment clean. Don’t allow dust and debris to accumulate.

A simple brush will remove all dust and dirt.

As a result - both the synthesizer and the knobs are clean. I don’t think we have different qualities of rubber on the buttons. My Polyend is more than two years old.

By the way, where are those white circles on the buttons from? Mine doesn’t have those; is that some new version or did you stick them on yourself?

@Sandroid

I keep my stuff clean. I use a air blowing machine once a week that blows dust and sweeps dust off stuff. I just didn’t do it this week yet. I can’t help that it keeps coming back daily lol, but that still isn’t the issue why my knobs are turning my finger black lol.

As you can see in my pic, it looks as if the rubber is wearing off or something. Weirdly it just started happening past week.

As for the white things on the knobs, they are just stickers. I put them on there so I know visually those are my C1, C2, C3 knobs at a fast glance. I also have colored (orange, blue, green) stickers below the screen on the 3 buttons that matches the engines etc.

The buttons can be removed, you can clean them and put them back. But I don’t think the rubber is the issue; there clearly seems to be some external cause behind this.

It would be interesting to see how your synthesizer looks after you’ve cleaned it. So far, I only see dirty buttons and a dirty synthesizer.

Was your skin clean? Did you use creams? Chemicals or something like that? Nothing should severely damage the rubber coating like you describe. I don’t think @Mitch uses cheap buttons for the synthesizer.

My skin is fine and again this just started this past week and I have been using synth for a bit since and I had one before for a few months that never did this.

I do use hand sanitizer once in awhile but again this just started happening.

Just used a napkin and wiped the knobs and black rubber marks came off on it too, so it’s not my fingers.

Is your Synth exposed to direct sunlight?

Nope. It’s on a desk next to my microfreak that pulls out when I need it, so during times when not in use it’s hiding under it. I play in the evening for a few hours and im like 10 feet from the window and barely any sun gets in anyway.

I have the same issue with the knobs on the Synth. Black fingertips at the end of a session playing with the Synth. Also have a Play+ and that doesn’t have the same issue. I already did a test using only the Synth and only the Play+, but only after using the Synth I got the Black fingertips.

Playing conditions are normal.

I am glad I’m not the only one then!

Must be something these knobs are made from doing it after awhile!

Never had a report of this happening on any unit before these 2. Did you buy yours new Brock? They are made of a material that has been used on Play that we trust, not the stuff that degrades into goop. Not sure what is going on here, I would suggest emailing support@polyend.com with your serial number so they can investigate this further.

The first one I bought new at launch and I never had that issue, but then like an idiot I let it go back in march for money that I needed and regretted it but in may I just got a 2nd hand mint condition one off someone on reverb and it’s mint and was doing fine until recently when this issue of black marks started showing up out of the blue and then someone a few posts up said they are having the same issue, so I don’t think it would just be an issue with mine?

However I will email support as you suggested
