Play won't boot after updating to 1.6.0.1705b

The screen just displays a Polyend logo and a status bar that is not moving.

Help.

Bug Description

My Polyend Play is now bricked after running the “PolyendPlay_1.6.0.1705b.ppf.zip (1.2 MB)”

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Ran the update from the Polyend Play Firmware menu.
  2. Now every reboot is stuck on a Polyend logo with a status bar that never moves.

Occurrence / Frequency

Everytime I boot the Play… since running the Upgrade.

Found in Firmware

PolyendPlay_1.6.0.1705b

PolyendPlay_1.6.0.1705b

Hey @insektgod, looks like your /workspace folder may have gotten f’ed up.

You could take the card out and delete the /workspace folder. The Play should boot up again afterwards.

Let me know if that helped.

Glad it worked.

Keep an eye out for it though. It shouldn’t happen with new projects that you create, but it is possible that this may reappear when loading old projects and restarting with them open.

We are currently trying to figure out what exactly is causing this but haven’t found a proper way to reproduce it.

Weirdly the boot issue returns even with a NEW PROJECT that I just created.

I went back to previous Firmware for now. Let me know if want me to recreate the issue with 1.6.0.1705b or get you a /workspace folder in a .zip file.

Kinda looking forward to the finger drumming mode and the MIDI Performance Mode… but for now it’s a bit annoying to get back to a computer to fix the MicroSD card to get it to boot again.

I have the same problem but mine will boot with a new blank project. If I create a new project and leave it blank before I turn off it boots up and then I have to load the project I was working on. If you create a new project and add anything to it then it won’t boot until you delete the workspace folder.

Same here. I got it to boot by saving the current project. Then creating a new project. And then updating the firmware. It then boots and I can create a new project and save, etc.

But, if I save the project after all of that an shut down, then boot again, it is stuck with the Polyend logo and the progress bar just starting to fill on the left.

If I create a new project and then shut down, it will boot again. But, you basically need to save your project, create a new project, then shutdown in order for it to reliably boot. Otherwise, you need to go back to 1.42 again. This is also happening with the 1.50xx beta build as well.

Michael…

So, this is a strange one… I deleted the new projects that I made under the 1.6.0xxx firmware. Put the card back in and upgraded it back to 1.6.0.1705 using the same process as before. I noticed something a bit different. When I upgraded the first time and then made a new project, I also selected pad perform on a few tracks, then saved it. This seems to be a trigger of some sort. If I save teh project and leave it in Pad Perform and reboot, then it hangs. But, only maybe 15% of the time. I will dig in more and see what I can find out.

Thanks @michael, that is super useful info , we are still trying to figure out how and what is causing these hangs for some users. So any additional information that folks can provide is helping us a lot. :hugs:

Excellent, @borsuk ! Thank you!

Michael…

after the Beta firmware update, I got the same Polyend logo with the update bar that does not move. Tried to delete the workspace folder, SD card then needed to be formatted. After a format and recopy of my backed up data, the Play does not recognize the SD card. I do see Beta 1.6 on the boot screen now, but then it goes to “Insert SD Card”

My Play won’t boot even with a fresh formatted sd card and sd card files copied to it.

@mmartin1970, if you formatted the card, did you remember to format with the FAT file system? To me the symptoms sound like either an unsupported file system, card not inserted correctly or a broken SD card. But most likely the file system.

@Sandroid is there any way of enabling a verbose logging mode in the plus so the device dumps a log into the SD card and you guys can go from there?

@here I’m glad to inform this bug was fixed with the latest firmware update

Thanks!! Just updated to 1.5… I’m wondering if this is similar to the 1.6.0.1705b firmware … just with fixed boot issues for /workspace loading from the micro-SD card?

The 1705 beta is still open and I believe finger drumming is not included in the 1.5 stable release. You can’t have it all… Yet
